Invoice field

I am creating an invoice for a client and the total charge for services is $10,000. I need to break that total out into two classes (for each partners at $5,000 a piece), but I only want the total $10,000 to show on the invoice. Not two service charges of $5,000 each. Can I do that?

Hello there, Kelsier. Let me share information about creating invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

At the moment, assigning two classes to a single line item on the invoice isn't an option. However, you can create two separate line items for the same service to assign both classes.

For your future reference, you can check out this article on how to record invoice payments: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for the reply. The issue is once I assign the two classes as you demonstrated, I want to save/print the invoice to send to a client, but only want the total to show. Is there any way to enter two services lines, but them have the invoice print/download with a single total amount for services?

Thanks for getting back with the Community, Kelsier.

You can customize your invoice template to not display the information you don't want shown to customers on their copies of transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Open an invoice and use its Gear icon.
  2. Click your Change what your customers see option.
  3. Access the Content tab and click your table section's Pencil (Edit) icon.
  4. In the Columns area, make any necessary changes. You can turn off things such as Date, Product/Service, Description, Quantity, Rate, Amount, etc.
  5. When you're finished, select Done.

Now when you email or print a copy of invoices using this template, recipients won't see the line items section of their invoice. They will still see the invoice's total amount which is created by the items or services listed in the line items list.

I've also included a detailed resource about customizing transaction forms which may come in handy moving forward: Customize invoices, estimates, & sales receipts

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Friday!
