Invoice Grouping Items

Talking about a construction company here. I want to create an invoice, but one that only creates a total per trade of work, rather than showing labor and materials on every trade. I have tried to group them, and then when I print the invoice they don't show (Which is what I want). However when I create a group, and then I try to use estimates vs actuals, that report no longer will group the trades. They become all separate line items without showing totals per trade. I want the grouping to take place on the estimate, invoice, and then the detail level grouped on the estimates vs. actuals report.

Essentially I want the reporting to sum up by a group, and I also want to be able to do the same on an invoice. Can anyone help me with this?

Invoice Grouping Items

Welcome to the Community, @DoraD1.

Let me help and provide information about running a report for the group items in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Currently, we are unable to generate a report for grouped items. However, you can manually export any inventory report to Excel and modify it to get the necessary information.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and then select Inventory.
  2. Select the report you want to run.
  3. Click the Excel drop-down located at the top, and select Create New Worksheet.
  4. In the Send Report to Excel window, choose in new workbook under Create New Worksheet.
  5. Hit Export.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To know more about exporting reports as Excel, refer to this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

For future reference, check this article to guide you in customizing the data, adding or deleting columns, adding or removing information on the header/footer, and even personalize the font and style of the report: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop

Please feel free to drop a comment below, if you have further concerns about the reports or other QBDT-related concerns. I will answer them in any possible way.
