Is the "recurring invoices" feature being replaced with "recurring payments"?

Hi,

I have been using Quickbooks recurring invoices for several months. However, today I logged in to create a new recurring invoice, and then when I try to edit that recurring invoice, it is missing some of my invoice fields and has several recurring payment fields.

What is going on? Will recurring invoices be supported going forward without the requirement to use any QBO Payments option? If this will not be supported, that's fine, I just need to know so I can switch to another recurring invoice provider. My customers all pay via ACH so there's no QBO or other third-party % fee.

Best,

Matt

Is the "recurring invoices" feature being replaced with "recurring payments"?

Recurring invoices are not being replaced by recurring payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO); both features exist and are used for different purposes, Matt. Let's address why your recurring invoice fields might be missing.

First, ensure you haven't accidentally clicked the Convert to Recurring Payment link in the recurring invoice template. This could be why the recurring invoice is missing. Additionally, when editing recurring invoices, it is crucial to verify that you are working on the correct page. I'll show you how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon and then select Recurring transactions.
  2. In the Action column, click Edit next to the transaction you wish to modify.

  3. Update the template name, type, and the customer or payee's name as needed.
  4. If you're editing a Scheduled or Reminder-type template, you can adjust how far in advance QuickBooks creates the template or sends you a reminder. You can also set the frequency in the Interval section.
  5. In the Item Details section, add or remove any product or service details.
  6. When you're done, select Save template.

Moreover, all QuickBooks Online plans (Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced) support recurring invoices, independent of QuickBooks Payments or Autopay. Refer to this article: Create recurring transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Is the "recurring invoices" feature being replaced with "recurring payments"?

Thank you for these details.

I figured out the issue. When double clicking an existing recurring invoice on the page you show, it opens the invoice in the new "Recurring Payment" box. This is confusing and not the expected behavior. However, clicking the gear on the invoice row and clicking "Edit" opens the invoice as an invoice.

I recommend giving feedback to the design team that when a recurring invoice is double clicked, it should open the invoice and not another object.

Thanks,

Matt
