My card reader has stop working

Hello @barbersuniversit,

To ensure if this card reader doesn’t work anymore. We can perform some troubleshooting steps to ensure if this reader is still compatible to use if you’re referring to swiping issues.

These troubleshooting steps can help you determine as well the cause of this behavior. Here’s how:

  1. Let’s double-check if the card reader is firmly connected to your computer.
  2. Ensure that your card reader is a MagTek USB device.
  3. Plug the reader directly into one of your computer's USB ports, not through a keyboard or a USB hub.
  4. Swipe the card correctly.
  5. Check the card’s magnetic stripe.
  6. If the light is red, it means the reader didn’t read the card correctly. If this happens, the magnetic head may need cleaning.
  7. You can also try different types of cards or another computer to see if the card itself or the type is causing the issue.
  8. If the reader is unresponsive try switching from HID( human interface device).

If you still can’t swipe a card after following the troubleshooting recommendations, enter the card information annually so you don’t lose the sale or payment.

You can refer these articles for further information in using a card reader and how to fix card related issues.

Also, if you mean something else, you can add additional details of your concern so we can provide the best resolutions.

If you have further assistance with this, I’ll be around to help you out. Have a good one!
