Partial Payments with GoPayment

I appreciate you for returning to this thread, CSharpe1.

Currently, receiving partial payments in the QuickBooks GoPayment app for iPad using a card reader is unavailable.

As a workaround, you can send your customer an invoice through email using the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile browser, and they can partially pay it from there.

To do that:

  1. Open your QBO account.
  2. Go to + New and select Invoice.
  3. Under the Customer dropdown, choose a customer and enter their email in the Customer email field.
  4. Fill out other necessary information.
  5. Click Save and send.
  6. Review the email details and select Send and close.

Here's a visual reference of what the email looks like when received by your customer:

While this feature is unavailable, I encourage you to send feedback directly to our software engineers. This way, they can assess your recommendation and might consider including it in our future product enhancements.

It's great seeing you here in the Community, CSharpe1.

I'd be glad to assist you in accepting partial payments via the QuickBooks GoPayments card reader and app.

When receiving partial payments, you'll need to enter these manually in your QuickBooks Online account. You can use the Receive payment feature to accept partial payments using the card reader.

To do that:

  1. Go to the +New button, and select Receive payment.
  2. Select the name of the customer from the Customer dropdown.
  3. On the Outstanding Transactions section, select an open invoice to apply for the payment. To take a partial payment, change what's in the Payment field.
  4. From the Payment method, select Swipe Card.
  5. Enter the partial amount paid in the Amount received field or Payment box.
  6. Enter the Reference no. and Memo if needed.
  7. Once done, select Save and close

Hey there, @CSharpe1. Thanks for getting back to this thread.

The option to pay for invoices or take payments in advance depends on the GoPayment app you're using.

If you're using the green one, follow these steps to payments for open invoices:

  1. Open the GoPayment app.
  2. Tap the Plus (+) and click Invoice payment.
  3. Find the customer, or use the search field.
  4. Select the existing invoice the customer is paying for.
  5. Tap Charge and choose a payment method.

If you select Card reader, follow the steps based on the card type:

  • Credit cards with EMV chips: Put the card in the slot with the chip facing downward. The magnetic strip should face the customer. Then tap Charge.
  • Credit cards you swipe: Slide the card across the slot on the back of the reader. The magnetic strip should face the customer. Then tap Charge.
  • Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay: If you have the All-in-one Bluetooth Card Reader, you can process mobile payments. Ask customers to tap their device in front of the reader. Then tap Charge.
  • If you don't have a card reader, select Key in card and enter the info manually. Then tap Charge.

If you have the blue GoPayment app, follow the steps from this article instead: How to process payments in the blue GoPayment app.

The time it takes to get the money into your bank account depends on your product and payment plan. To know more about it, you can check out the Deposit Times for QuickBooks Payments.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi ReymondO!

So when clicking Accept Payment in the Green app, there is no option to change the payment amount. Does this mean it's not an option for partial payments?

Thank you!
