Progress Invoicing without affecting Quantity in invoice

When converting an Estimate to an Invoice I have the option of invoicing for certain percentage (progress invoicing). This is nice as I usually charge 25% upfront and 75% on delivery. However when I select it changes the quantity to 25% of the original. For example if 4nos were ordered, the quantity changes to 1. This is both annoying and confusing to customers and me too.

Say my invoice is $160 and I wish to charge the customer upfront payment $40 (25%) and the balance due on Delivery 120(75%) Is it possible to add a line item at the bottom of the invoice which goes like this:

Total Amount:    $160
Amount Due:       $40
Due on Delivery: $120

How have others solved this issue? Again, the quantity should not change.

Progress Invoicing without affecting Quantity in invoice

I'm glad that you brought this up, @anonEthos.

For now, having an option to add another detail at the bottom of the invoices when creating progress invoicing is unavailable in QuickBooks. The program will only show the percentage of the amount deducted from your estimates in invoices totals.

However, you can add estimate summaries to invoices so your customers can see their remaining balance. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Settings, and select Custom Form Styles.
  2. Click Edit to update your existing progress invoicing template.
  3. Select the Content tab, then click the pencil icon on the third section of the form.
  4. Check the Estimate summary checkbox.
  5. Save your work by clicking Done.

Additionally, there are several financial reports you can run to track your sales income in QuickBooks. They will show you helpful insights on the things you buy and sell, and the status of your inventory.

Don't hesitate to tag my name in the comment section below if you have other concerns or questions. I'm always ready to help.

Progress Invoicing without affecting Quantity in invoice

Thank you for the suggestion.

It is workable and provides context for both the business owner and customer.

Great if you can escalate this request to product team as a feature request.
