I'll be sharing another set of troubleshooting to ensure your QuickBooks Desktop won't freeze anymore during applying credit cards to a bill.
To fix the unusual behavior that you're experiencing, let's make sure you're running the updated Windows version and have the most recent release of QuickBooks Desktop installed. This is to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.
Then, you can start by running a quick fix on your program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub. First, download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub.
From the Tools Hub, run the Quick Fix my Program. It shuts down any open background processes QuickBooks uses. It'll run a quick repair of your program.
If the issue persists, I highly suggest contacting our Support team. They have tools that can pull up your account in a secure environment and check the cause of this behavior. They can also perform other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.

Hello,
I've run through all these steps and still freezes while applying credits. At this point I will be looking into buying a different program as I cannot afford to have staff waiting 10+ minutes entering each payment. Please help before you lose a long term customer for 20+ years.
Thanks
Matt

QuickBooks version 23.0 2023 Enterprise. This has been an ongoing issue with us for 5 years now. Yes I've used the rebuild tool many times, never helps. I've even sent the file to QuickBooks engineering team and they told me the file was too large, we went through the compressing stages and got it narrowed down to just 1-2 years and still freezes.
When we apply credits the program locks up, no spinning wheel of death or anything like that. You cannot click anywhere inside the program to do anything, but I can go to a different monitor and check emails, type in a word processor, etc. with no issues. I hired a technology company to look into it thinking it was my host server. We're now operating using a new server with a 13th gen i7 processor, 64 gb of DDR5 Ram and a SSD. They monitored the CPU usage and say it is very low, he came to conclusion it's bad coding in the program itself. When you hit Save & Close it saves it to the account, but doesn't close the window like its suppose to. Instead it just locks up. If you CTRL ALT DELETE and end task, then reopen, generally the work is saved.
Install QBD 2024 on a local machine and try running your file on it for testing purpose only. If the same error persists, consider to ask a 3rd party service provider to check your file. If they can't fix your file, they will offer a full refund and you should consider open a new company file instead.
