01/08/2024 - Direct Payments Price Increase

The current price for Intuit Direct Payments is $1.75.

The new pricing on 1/8/24 is $4.00 per direct deposit item.

This is almost a 230% increase.

My question is, who at Intuit is the money grabbing thief that came up with this new program?

This is part of their roadmap to force you to switch to QBD Enterprise or QBO.

In order to retain payroll functionality, we were forced to buy a subscription for desktop this year for the first time in 22 years, at almost twice the price for one year that we used to spend for three years use of the desktop disk version.  That computed to a 275% increase in our cost.  We just received an email that enhanced payroll subscription in 2024 will increase 31% and direct deposits will increase 45%.    Apparently, this is how Intuit rewards customer loyalty.   Are we gluttons for punishment or just crazy to stay with them?

I have to agree, these price increases are ridiculous!! We are a non-profit and have used QuickBooks for 20 years at a discounted price thru Tech Soup. NOW, in order to retain all our records (scanned into the system) and retain payroll functionality, we are being forced to buy our desktop version at a ridiculously high cost and now our enhanced payroll and direct deposit costs are increasing!  Are you trying to drive away your customers? Because this a good way to lose they.  We cannot use the QB Online (discounted on Tech Soup), that is a huge step backwards, none of the scanned documents for the past 20 years will transfer and neither do our saved reports which have been created over the past 20 years. QuickBooks, we are very disappointed. Really wish you would look at your longstanding customer base and offer a better solution.

What a nonsense non-reply.

230% increases are "consistent with industry standards".

That's just a lie.

Just leave Quickbooks.  It's a terrible company with even worse products.

Quickbooks is just raising rates to increase profits.

This is even more repulsive given Quickbooks/Intuit mine your employee data and sell it to outside companies - usually without your employee's consent and often without yours.

The increases aren't limited to Direct Deposit - Quickbooks raised the base rate of our payroll subscription by 30%.

There are lots of alternative payroll providers.  We've been doing some research and are moving to Patriot software.  It's cheaper than our current rates and their plan includes direct deposit without additional charges.

People are struggling right now, just to buy groceries and you could not just do a .25 to .50 increase.  What in the heck is seriously going on with you people.  Quickbooks needs to rethink this immediately, before people are leaving quickbooks for the Patriot accounting program.

If you charge $5 dollars for something, you DO NOT jump to $10 in a price increase.  Quickbooks is making bank off of all the subscriptions and fees they charge, you can't give struggling people a break?  Quickbooks needs to rethink this.  I have used the program since day one and the loyalty is repaid how?  By taking what used to $500 a year for payroll service and buying QB at Costco for $275.00 and now I pay literally like $3000 a year for everything and half the time things still don't work correctly.  Quickbooks is taking advance of a need of being the number 1 program people use to operate their business. And QB online is CRAP compared to the desktop version and I mean CRAP!

Consider switching to QB Desktop Enterprise Gold. You can purchase it through selected partners to get perpetual discounts for renewal.

We will be encouraging all of our clients to go back in time and start printing paper checks.  This increase in the direct deposit fee is absolutely absurd!!  We will also me shopping for a replacement to QuickBooks for our payroll services.

What experience did you expect Intuit customers to feel?  I find your comment very tone deaf.  This is not an industry standard.  I have business relationships with other payroll providers and this is not happening with their payroll prices.  So, as a 32 yr user of Intuit products and an accountant with hundreds of clients, let me tell you the experience that is actually going on since the QB team is ignoring the real effect.  QBD users and payroll subscribers are jumping ship to other accounting programs and other payroll providers.   QBO is not the same robust program that QBD is.  QBD has it's own gitches, but it is far superior to QBO.  I figure this is a push to move QBD users to the web-based QB Enterprise.  No doubt we will see that in the next 1-2 years.  The QBO desktop app is only lipstick on a pig.  In the desktop view it gives the feel of the desktop program.  But, do not be deceived, it is QBO all the way.  QBO is an inferior program to QBD.  Companies will find other options; they always do when they feel they are being railroaded or taken advantage of.

Hi michelebrenner,

I'm here to answer your query regarding the fees for vendor direct deposit

Currently, there's no change in the direct deposit fee for vendors. It's still $1.75. You can check this page to know some changes on the direct deposit fees: Changes to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Direct Deposit Fee.

Furthermore, you can check this article on how to manage direct deposit for vendors: Manage vendor's direct deposit.

I'm always around whenever you have questions about processing direct deposit.

I'd like to know the alternatives to QB.  What are people jumping ship to?  Seems like all the accounting vendors are migrating to online versions and they are garbage.

It was just brought to my attention, by a client no less, that the DD rate had increased.  I, unfortunately, didn't pay attention to the amount when I processed the most recent direct deposit.  What's worse is  never received any kind of notice from Intuit about this increase so I could notify my clients.  How can they increase the rates that much?!! That's insane.  My fee for my subscription has gone up nearly $600 over the last 2 years - as a small business this kind of increase really hurts and makes me think I need to look elsewhere for a different software to run my business & payroll on. I've used QuickBooks for over 25 years and hate the thought of trying to learn something new, but these constant insane increases may leave me, and it sounds like other bookkeepers, no other choice!  Intuit I really hope you'll reconsider some of these rate increases you are going to lose us faithful customers!!

You may consider using QB Desktop with a non subscription license + a 3rd party payroll app. You will register the payroll expenses as JE in QB Desktop manually. Another option, You may consider upgrading to QB Desktop Enterprise if your headcount reaches a certain number. You will get perpetual discounts for renewals if you purchase the license through a select partner.

This price increase makes me livid.  It is now time to seek other options.  An over 200% increase is unreasonable and I have had enough of your games.
