Adjusting customer deposit amount

We use Work Orders on QuickBooks POS, and the other day incorrectly entered a customer deposit incorrectly by $5.  (The credit card transaction on a stand alone terminal was run for $445, and it was entered as a deposit in POS accidentally for $450)

What's the cleanest/easiest way to fix this? Refund the customer deposit in POS and re enter it? Make a journal entry of some sort?

Thanks!

Adjusting customer deposit amount

Hello there, @ dguest.

To correct the overpayment, you can issue a refund or keep it a store credit. Let me guide you on how to do it.

If you wish to issue a credit, the customer’s account balance will remain negative until you apply it.

If you wanted to provide a refund, then you can follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Make a Sale.
  2. Enter the customer’s name.
  3. Choose the Account.
  4. Select Charge to Account and enter the overpayment.
  5. Choose the payment method you wanted to refund the customer.
  6. Select Save only or Save and Print.

Also, you can check this article about how to remove a negative entry from the Payments to Deposit screen will be removed.
