Hi Jerown13,
I know how unnecessary features affect your navigation when using QuickBooks Desktop. I'm here to share some information about the requested option.
The option to turn off the billable check marks on bills is still unavailable. Our engineers might be working to bring this feature over to this platform in the future.
As we assess this, I recommend affected users continue sending these requests directly to our product engineers. We continue to improve the features, and this option might be available in the future.
Here's how to submit feedback:
Also, did you know you can track the expenses for a job and compare those expenses to your revenue? I have a link here you can visit to learn more about the feature in QuickBooks Desktop: Track job costs in QuickBooks Desktop.
You're welcome to post about your QuickBooks concerns in this space. If you have additional questions about the features, let us know. We'll be here to lend a hand.
This is absolutely ridiculous. The first response for this fix was back in 2019. At that time the statement from QB was our engineers are working on it. I am not sure in what universe it should take an engineer 4 years to make a relatively simple fix. Is there an expectation for this to be completed and the "Billable" check to be not automatically checked. I understand that some people may want to use the Billable button, but there should be an option to turn it off for companies that do not use the feature.

just got quickbooks and have been trying to fix this for hours... only to find this thread. this is insane! please allow us to turn this off. like others have said, its been a simple ask for YEARS
Hi kf123,
Found that this works as a temp option to remove mass amounts of checkmarks in one shot... Not a perfect option but it does work. Hope it helps.
1. Replace the link on your QBO webpage address bar with this link: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/managebillableexpense
2.Enter the beginning date for the transactions you'd like to remove the billable status from.
3. Click Save.
If only that were a solution for the desktop version which inexplicably doesn't contain the same functionality as QBO.
Counting down to the "submit your product suggestion to the developers through the help menu" response and dreaming of how to create a bot to submit the suggestion a sufficient number of times to get someone to pay attention to the very simple request we have been making for years.
I"m leaving QB after having been a customer since 1999. I remember paying the price and upgrading to premier just to have the capability to copy my sales orders to purchase orders and invoices, so I wouldn't have to input all the items over and over again. I would get the new QB version every couple of years. The price of QB going up exponentially each time and now we're being forced to subscribe for over $900 each year and we're locked out of using QB if we don't. I can't even downgrade my files to be used on a older version that's not the subscription model, and mind you I paid for those. I should be able to use them. I've been robbed.
And to boot, for over $900 a year, you can't add a simple "uncheck all" box for the billable costs column? You've had countless people asking for this simple feature for 5 years by my count on this thread alone. There are even more threads on this very subject.
This should not be marked as solved, as it was never solved. You have 5 years of people saying this is still an ongoing issue.
I am in the same boat and I agree, however, I have QuickBooks desktop enterprise pro, and they charged me 2300 a year, I'm trying to downgrade and they offer me for $1,800 a year, but if I go downgrade or back date to a previous year I cannot have any of my data. I will be locked out of my data. My data I can't use reports or do anything. The lady even was ignorant enough to say that I cannot see my history of my payroll, I'm leaving for good, unless somebody from QuickBooks can resolve this issue, we should be able to turn off the subscription and continue to use our QuickBooks without all the features, like customer reports or payroll, I'm going broke and I need help but they could care less. Care less. Been a customer since 1993, I have probably spent 60 or 70 thousand dollars with QuickBooks
It's been years and it doesn't seem like they planned on fixing this problem.
And they wonder why I literally laughed out loud when they called and asked why I chose not to renew my "support" contract. My guess is they will never fix this in the desktop versions as all they want to do is to push everybody to the online version. That would be fine if the online version had all the features of the desktop version, but it doesn't.
I assume this is still an open issue as of the end of August, 2024.
Dear QB Support Engineers...Keep up the unremarkable and frustrating level of support we all have grown to despise!! Why change now?!!!
We just upgraded to the most recent QB. I was responsible for this original post and was once again in disbelief that this bug was still not addressed, despite many years that have passed and the many people explaining the necessity.
Intuit wants to move all users to QB online but if they can't fix bugs in a timely manner, how are we supposed to trust them with hosting our QB and keeping up with the security necessary to keep our information safe?
Fortunately, they don't offer our version online yet and if/when we are forced to go online, we may need to switch to different software because I am not sure we can trust Intuit to keep our information safe and/or respond quick enough to the increasing threats of information securityl
