Payment link with an invoice

Hi!  We create an estimate and take a 50% deposit from our clients before work begins.  I'd like to send a payment link to the customer so they can pay the deposit via CC on their own.  At the time I am taking the deposit, no work has been done, so I don't want to generate a progress invoice since that will create a revenue event (it is still unearned at this point). Is there a way to send a payment link in QBO without creating an invoice?

Payment link with an invoice

Yes, there is, @allisonnelson318. I’m here to walk you through the process.

QuickBooks Online offers an intuitive process for generating payment links. These links streamline the charging and payment collection process, making it easier for businesses to get paid.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks account and ensure to switch it to Business view.
  2. Navigate to the Get paid & pay tab on the left-hand panel.

  3. Click Payment Links.
  4. Select Get started if you’re new to QuickBooks Payments and follow the onscreen instructions to finish the setup. Otherwise, tap the Create a link option.

  5. You can personalize the link URL by entering your business name.

  6. Enter the payment details.
  7. Hit Send payment link after.

You can copy the payment link and send it through an alternate email or text message, or you can choose to display it as a QR code for customers to scan and pay via their smartphones. When done, your clients will be redirected to a page where they can select their preferred payment method.

Please don't hesitate to let me know or add comments if there are further questions about the said feature. I’d be glad to discuss them with you.

Thank you, MadelynC.

I do not have an option to “get paid and pay” in my column on the left.   am using QBO Afvanced.  Is that not available in Advanced?  I’ve searched and searched to no avail.

Payment link with an invoice

Hello there, Allison! We are happy to have you back in the thread and share us update regarding the getting paid and paid option. It is our pleasure to give you details on this matter.

We want to ensure that all QuickBooks users can utilize the program without any challenges. Currently, the option to get paid and pay is not available in QuickBooks Online Advanced. It would be best to send a feature request to our product developers so that they may consider adding this in future product improvements. Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Type your comments or suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit.

You'll want to learn how to void or refund payments you process through QuickBooks Online: Void or refund customer payments in QuickBooks Online.

We welcome you to return at any time by clicking the Reply button or posting in our forum if you have further concerns with other QuickBooks challenges. Wishing you a prosperous year ahead, Allison!
