Set up recurring payment for existing balance

I thought I posted this already, but then I went to make an edit, and it disappeared, so forgive me if I'm posting this again.

For whatever reason, I have a client with a $6,000 balance, who wants to pay it off over 6 mos, with a recurring payment of $1,000/mo. I'm okay with this, and we're not charging any interest for it.

The question is: How do I DO it in QBO?

There doesn't seem to be a way to set up a recurring payment, per se. A recurring Invoice or Sales Receipt? Yeah, sure. But not just a recurring payment. The problem is that either of those options necessarily create their own associated charge document. In other words, a recurring Invoice can automatically charge the customer's card, but then the payment goes against the invoice. So it won't affect the existing invoice(s), or the open balance. That doesn't work for this.

Now I don't mind having the payments be unassigned, by default. I'll go in and assign them to the appropriate invoices. But I definitely want them to be charged automatically.

I was thinking that this is sort of like a layaway type situation, where a single invoiced item could have several payments associated with it, until it gets paid off. But that still doesn't help me, because there isn't a clear way to set that up either.

So what can I do?

Set up recurring payment for existing balance

Hello there, @WNets.

It seems that you've posted your concern twice. My colleague already addressed the issue in your first post. Kindly refer to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/payments/taking-recurring-payments-against-an-exis....

In the meantime, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your business's growth using QuickBooks Online (QBO): QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about data security, banking, and expenses, to name a few. You can click the + More topics button to view other selections.

Let me know if you have other recurring transaction concerns or inquiries about managing your sales and income in QBO. I'm just around to help. Take care always.

Yes, that's what I described in the beginning. I posted, but then couldn't find the post again, so I wasn't sure it actually posted. So I posted again. Sorry about that. I'm not going to do more of a response here. For the continuing conversation, yeah - use that other post.

Thanks!
