clocking in/out and bonus pay questions

Hello Everyone, I'm attempting to implement a not so straight forward way of our employees clocking in and out and also a un-common way to issue payroll bonuses based off a total combined team bonus that will be divided up by the total amount of combined team hours worked to establish a hourly bonus that will be given to the individual employees based on the amount of the individuals hours worked? (hoping this all makes sense)

here's an example. total bonus for the month is $2000. there's 25 employees that all worked a team combined total of 4000 hours.

$2000.00 bonus / 4000 hours = $0.50 /hour bonus. an employee with 160 hours worked last month would receive a bonus of $80 (160x$0.50 = $80) let's says someone only worked 100 hours would receive a $50 bonus

is there a way to calculate this each month without having to manually track and enter everything through QB Time or payroll?

My other question is can QB Time be set up so that employees cannot clock in early before the assigned shift is scheduled? and is there also a way to receive alerts or reports of when employees clock in late or clock out early of their assigned shifts?

clocking in/out and bonus pay questions

Hello there, Mike.

We can only add flat amounts of bonus pay types in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you'll want to consider adding another hourly pay type to calculate the amounts automatically.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll, then select Employees.
  2. Click Edit payroll items.
  3. Select the New Payroll item button on the top right of the page.
  4. Select Pay type, then select Hourly as the pay type. Name it anything you want.
  5. Click Assign employee(s).
  6. Select all the employees you wish to, then click Next.
  7. Fill in the Rate per hour with $0.5, then select Save.

Once you run a payroll, you can add the hourly bonus rates by filling in the hours worked under the hourly bonus column.

Currently, the option to restrict an employee from clocking in early and receive a notification when they punch in/out late or early is unavailable. There are only certain notifications that QuickBooks Time currently supports. You can find these in the Company Settings, then go to the Notifications tab. In the meantime, you can explore 3rd party time management apps that best suit your business needs

Furthermore, you can also learn how to enter a weekly timesheet in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have further questions about QuickBooks Time and QuickBooks Payroll time tracking. I'd gladly help you anytime.
