Hi there, Union. I'm here to help if you're experiencing difficulties backing up your files with Intuit Data Protect.

To begin, please ensure that your Windows firewall isn't blocking the software, as it requires access to function correctly. Check your firewall settings and ensure that important files are allowed.

To add important files to the Windows firewall:

  1.  Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Firewall in the search field.
  2.  Click on Allow an app through Windows Firewall and then select Allow another app.
  3. Browse and go to Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  4. Select QBIDPservice.exe, then Open.
  5. Hit on Network types and select the Private checkbox. Tap Add.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the files IBUenghost.exe and IntuitDataProtect.exe.

To add Intuit Data Protect to your trusted sites:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Type Internet options in the search field.
  3. Click on Security, then Trusted sites.
  4. Select Sites and add the following websites: backup.com, *.intuit.net, *.intuit.com, *.intuitdataprotect.com, *.quickbooks.com, workplace.intuit.com, emerald.backup.com.
  5. Ensure the Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  6. Hit Close, then OK.

Once done, back up with Intuit Data Protect again. Read this article to proceed to the next solution if the issue persists: Unable to back up with Intuit Data Protect.

You can also utilize the Verify and Rebuild tool to detect the most common problems in a company file and fix them.

Additionally, refer to this article to view different details on resolving general problems when your company file won't open: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Always know that you can post again here in the Community if you have any other concerns about managing data. Kindly reply to this post, and I'll lend a helping hand.

Thanks for giving that a try, Union Hydraulics.

Since the steps above didn't do the trick, I recommend reaching out to a member of the QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. Agents have specialized tools, such as the ability to share your screen, that will allow them to take a closer look to determine what's causing this issue with the backup. Here's how to get in touch with the team:

1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.

2. Select Contact Us.

3. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.

4. Sign in to your Intuit account and select Continue and then Continue with my account.

5. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and select Continue.

6. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

The following article provides these steps if you ever need them again in the future: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support

Please don't hesitate to reach back out in in the comments below if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have been on the phone 3 separate times with Quickbooks for four hours each time and it still isn't resolved.

If you are still needing help with this, we were able to get it working by logging out all users more forcefully and use the QuickBooks repair tool. Not sure if the repair tool really did anything. For logging users out we modified the permissions for all users except the admin user and synced with AD on each QuickBooks user's workstation after removing privileges. Then logged in with the admin user on the server containing the Company File and ran the repair tool on the installation on that server.

- On the machine with the company file being stored locally

- Only one user with access. Logged in as that user.

- Run repair and checked tasks to make sure Company file is closed

- Run Data Protect backup from the server

- After success, restore user privileges
