Service Items in Time Entry

When I create a customer in QBOP, and it transfers into QB time, each customer I have to manually click the service item to be required.  Is there anything I can do that we do not have to do this manual step?

In QBOP, I have selected to have the service item as part of time tracking.

Service Items in Time Entry

Good afternoon, @Kharp

It's great to see you back in the Community. Let's work together and get this problem handled.

Let's try these steps first to ensure to have the service items as time tracking plus run an import after to get that information over to QB Time. Here's how:

  1. First, sign in to QuickBooks Online as the Admin of the account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon.
  3. Select Account & Settings.
  4. Press Advanced then select Time tracking.
  5. Tap the pencil icon to edit. Make sure:
  • Add Service field to timesheets is enabled then click Save and run an Import.

Please let me know if this helps. I want to ensure that you're able to get back to running your business. Bye for now!

Service Items in Time Entry

Hey again, @Kharp

Thanks for reaching back out to me and letting me know that you've already tried those steps. It's great that we're narrowing down to the root of the problem.

Yes, based on the information you gave, you'll need to select a service item for each customer manually. However, you can assign certain service items to your customers through QB Time to make the list smaller. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Customers tab on the left-hand menu.
  2. Locate and click on the customer you want to customize. (click again if there is a project)
  3. In the window, choose Custom Fields
  4. Next to "Service Items," select All Items

Lastly, all you'll need to do is tap on the service item(s) you want to be listed when manually choosing. It's that easy!

This should do the trick to make it easier to locate and pick the service item you need for your customers. Feel free to ask any other questions if you have them. Wishing you and your business continued success!

Thank you, I have been doing this, but I was hoping it would not have to be done for each and every customer.

I definitely understand @Kharp.

If you have a moment, you can always submit a Feature Request in QuickBooks Time. Our product development team look at the requests for ideas and features for future releases. Here's how:

  1. Feature Request:
  2. Select the (?).
  3. Click on Suggest an idea.
  4. Enter your request and Submit Idea.

I am finding with QB Time and the 2022 release that it seems no one tested these for usability. It is disappointing to see "solutions" that are really work-arounds.

I have over 100 customers. So for each and every one, I have to individually make sure the service list is selected.

Someone from Intuit should be monitoring the questions and not put the burden on the user to make a suggestion, when it is clearly a usability issue.

I don't see a Time Tracking option under Advanced Settings to add Service Items to Quickbooks Time
