Time Entry by Duration

Is there a way to disable Time Entry by Duration in Quickbooks Time? We would prefer that our employees are required to enter their exact start time and end time vs being able to add total hours for the day.

Time Entry by Duration

It's great seeing you here in the Community, sanderson67. I'd be glad to share some details about Time entry by duration when using QuickBooks Time.

When using the QuickBooks Workforce app, there are two options for tracking time: the Time Clock, which allows employees to clock in and out, and the Timesheet, where employees can manually enter their hours worked and the duration of those hours. Additionally, it is important to note that the Time Entry by Duration feature cannot be disabled.

Moreover, if your employees are using the QuickBooks Workforce app, I suggest visiting this article for detailed information about tracking time in QuickBooks Time: Choose how your team members can track time for QuickBooks Time.

Time Entry by Duration

Thanks so much for the response but that didnt answer my question....maybe I didnt explain myself correctly.

We want our employees to be able to utilize the QB Time app and also to be able to manage their own timesheets, and enter timesheets manually.

But we would like to require them to enter their timesheets manually ONLY by entering their start time and end time.   We would ideally like to DISABLE the option allowing them to enter their hours by duration only (for example, entering 8 hours instead of a start time of 9:05am and end time of 5:05pm.)

Is there a way to disable the 'time by duration' so they are required to enter a start and end time and do not have the option to add a timesheet based on total number of hours worked?

Thanks for getting back with the Community, sanderson67.

If you need to edit a team member, you can do so while signed in to QuickBooks Time.

Here's how:

  1. While signed in, go to My Team.
  2. Find and open your team member's profile.
  3. Make any necessary changes in the Team Member Details window.
  4. Select Save.

You can also enable team members to edit their own profiles if you'd prefer to:

  1. Go to Company Settings.
  2. Open My Team, then your Permissions screen.
  3. Check the Allow Team Members to Manage Their Settings checkbox.
  4. Select Save.

In the event you're using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Online Payroll, you'll have to to update team members there by going to Payroll, then Employees or Contractors.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about managing team members which may come in handy moving forward:

In regard to different ways your employees can track time, you can refer to our Choose how your team members can track time article, which cover each of their options for time tracking in and outside of the mobile app.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Monday!
