You’re in the right direction for help, lynn. I’ll share you with the guidelines to enable you to add your back pay to your employees in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We have two options for adding your back pay for your employees. First, we can create another pay type specifically other earnings to be affected on the next payout. From there, you can enter the total amount you will be paying and make sure to update your employee’s hourly rate moving forward.

Here’s how you can add other earnings to their payroll:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
  2. In the Employee profile, go to the Pay type section and click Edit.
  3. From the Additional pay types dropdown, mark check the Other Earnings type and enter the total amount. If you're not seeing one, click the + Another Reimbursement type to add one.
  4. Then, click Save.

To update your employee's hourly rate in the future, you can follow the steps and enter the updated rate.

You can also check out this article to learn how you can add or edit them: Add or change pay types.

On the other hand, if you want to update your paycheck from May with these amounts. Then you’ll have to go over to every paycheck to delete and recreate it with the correct rates.

Moreover, you can also pull up a variety of payroll reports in QuickBooks. It will give you a closer look at your employee's total wages, deductions, and tax information in a certain period. For the complete list of available payroll reports and how to pull them up, kindly refer to this article: Run payroll reports.
