Adding more custom fields to my item list in quickbooks desktop

Hello.  I want to add more custom fields to my item list.  Right now I am only allowed to use 5 custom fields and then I receive a warning saying "you have reached the limit of available custom fields."  I want to be able to store information on each item such as dimensions, weight, country of origin, shipping codes, case pack info, ect.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work around this?  I am using Premier Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition 2020.

The only way is to upgrade to Enterprise, where 15 fields are supported.

Enterprise also supports pick lists and has other related features:

Thanks!  I was hoping for a different option but i understand.  Do you know if it is as simple as downloading the new version and then bringing in my backup?

Hello there, bw1980.

 

Yes, you have the option to download the new version and restore the backup. Let me show you how to restore: 

 

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Click Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. 
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. Click Save.
