Am I able to setup a foreign contractor (with a foreign acct and tax ID) for direct deposit?

Welcome to the Community, @hr26. QuickBooks only supports U.S. based accounts. Thus, your contractor must have a US bank account to meet the requirements.

In the meantime, you can utilize your bank's transfer service such as Bill Pay for QuickBooks Online (QBO) to pay your contractors with foreign accounts.

For more details about Online Bill Pay and how to set this up, please check these articles:

You can also find a third-party application that suits your business needs through the QuickBooks App Store

Am I able to setup a foreign contractor (with a foreign acct and tax ID) for direct deposit?

Are there fees involved?

Thanks for joining this thread, @bivanchak

The fees will depend on the Bill Pay application you want to use in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you're referring to the Online Bill Pay service, there's no monthly subscription fee, but the charge is per transaction.

For the Bill.com app, there are multiple plans per month for each user. Additional transaction fees will also apply.

To compare the pricing and features between the two services above, check out this article: Chart

If you're referring to the third-party application, I'd suggest contacting their dedicated support team to know more about their fees.

In case you want to use the first option, I recommend signing up for it. This way, you can make vendor/contractor payments from within QBO easily.

Also, I suggest visiting this website: Online Bill Pay FAQs. It contains answers to the frequently asked questions about this service and the benefits of using it.

Am I able to setup a foreign contractor (with a foreign acct and tax ID) for direct deposit?

The contractor is Canadian with a US bank account. I cannot get past the screen that asks for their social and address, but the bank is added. How do I get past this?

Hi there, fdeutsc.

We're unable to enter a non-U.S. person in your QuickBooks Online version. However, you'll want to enter a dummy Social Security Number and the business address in the meantime so you can get through it. For the forms you might be needing to file for the contractor, I recommend getting in touch with the IRS to make sure that you will be filing the correct ones.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll guide you in ensuring your compliance with state payroll tax regulations: Payroll Tax Compliance

Keep me posted if there's anything else that you need help with. Take care and have a great day!

Am I able to setup a foreign contractor (with a foreign acct and tax ID) for direct deposit?

Hello, I too am perplexed by this set up, and am hoping you can answer the following:

I have an International Contractor that has a US bank account and I want to pay her via direct deposit through QB, it appears I can't put any international data in the system, not even a phone number.  Please advise.

Hi there, @EbrosMom.

Thank you for utilizing the Community page. Allow me to help you send an international payment in QuickBooks Online.

We're unable to enter a non-U.S. person in your QBO account. But if you can enter a dummy Social Security Number and the business address in the meantime so you can get through it. As for the forms that you'll be using, I recommend getting in touch with the IRS to make sure that you will be filing the correct ones.

As an alternative option and to also avoid sync errors when adding a multi-currency vendor, bill, or payment, let's turn on the multi-currency feature.

Once done, you can already wire payments to international vendors. Here's how:

  1. Click on +New. Then select Pay Bills Online.
  2. Choose Unpaid bills.
  3. Select the bill that you want to pay.
  4. After setting up the vendor select International Transfer as the payment method.
  5. Review the payment details, then select Next.
  6. Select Edit details for changes.
  7. Click on Send Payment.

Let me know if I can be of any help. Have a nice day and stay safe!

As another option, explore this app to pay your vendor and integrate it with your QBO.
