Am I allowed to claim the interest on my mortgage as a business expense considering that I am self employed with a home office?

I'm here to share details about categorizing home office expenses in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), @universalpws407. With this, you can keep your account accurate and manage your transactions accordingly.

When you work from your home office, you're able to claim mortgage interest as a business expense. Once you enter or download your home office expenses into QBSE, you'll have to categorize them as Mortgage interest (home office) under the Schedule C: Interest paid category.

To learn more about this, you can refer to this article: Categorize home office expenses in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It also includes details about expense categories on IRS Form 8829.

Also, I'd recommend checking out this article to learn more about Schedule C categories in QBSE: Schedule C and expense categories breakdown. It also contains details on how Schedule C categories appear on reports.

Let me know in the comments below if you have other concerns about categorizing home office expenses in QBSE. I'm just around to help. Take care always.
