An invoice was sent (and paid) using QBGo but it incorrectly listed a closed account to receive the money. What can I do to get access to the funds?

Yesterday, QuickBooksGo sent an email stating that payment had been made on the invoice. Is there a way reroute the payment to a different account through the QuickbooksGo app?

Hi there, BrianGi.

I can share information about switching bank account using the GoPayment app.

The funds are usually transferred to the deposit account using GoPayment within 2-5 business days. Rerouting the money to a different account is currently unavailable. You can log in to your GoPayment account using a browser to change the deposit bank account.

These are the step to update the Standard deposit account:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account using a browser.
  2. Go to the Gear or  Settings ⚙, then select Account and settings.
  3. Click the Payments tab.
  4. In the Deposit section next to Standard Deposit, choose Change bank.
  5. Select the Add new bank account.
  6. Enter the routing number and account number of the bank account you want to change to.
  7. Once done, hit Save.
  8. Review the bank account info and make sure it’s selected before completing your request.

Here's how for an Instant Deposit account:

  1. Select Settings ⚙ and then Account and settings.
  2. Click the Payments tab and go to the Deposit accounts section.
  3. Choose Change to edit your instant deposit info.
  4. Once done, hit Save and then Done.

You can review this article for more detailed information: Change the deposit bank account for QuickBooks Payments.

If you want to void or cancel a payment, you can utilize the GoPayment app. You can check out this resource to see the instructions: Void a payment using the QuickBooks Online app using GoPayment.

I've also included the following material to learn how to record or move money from one account to another in QuickBooks Online: Transfer funds between accounts.

Don't hesitate to drop a reply below if you need further assistance with the GoPayment app. I'll be around to help.

Thank you for the reply. So, rerouting the money is unavailable. What happens in 2-5 business days when QuickBooksGo tries to send the money into a closed account?

Hello, Brian.

I'd like to give a brief overview on what will happen if the funds were sent to a closed account. I'll also point you to the right direction to resolve this and ensure you'll receive the money.

It will likely be stuck on processing since the money is being deposited to a closed account. There might also be a chance that the funds will be returned to the customer.

To prevent this from happening, you'll want to contact our Payments support. Our agents will be able to check the status of the funds and ensure you're able to receive the funds.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a human (or type it in the chat box).
  3. When asked, enter "funds are being deposited to a closed account" in the chat box.
  4. Choose I still need a human.
  5. Click the Get help from a human link.
  6. Select either the phone or chat option.

Their contact details can also be found here: Contact Payments or Point of Sale Support.

Also, make sure that you've changed the bank account for payment processing as noted by my colleague, Giovann_G.

After dealing with the closed account, do you need help reconciling your payments and expenses? This article can guide you through the process: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

If you have more questions about processing your payments or other processes in QuickBooks, please let me know and I'll help you out.
