I have news regarding the receipt issue, and I'll come up with a way on how we can get around it.
I found out that we currently have a reported issue about receipts not saving or attaching on transactions. Our engineers are currently working to resolve this as soon as possible.
There are two workarounds to add your receipts to QuickBooks Self-Employed. The first one is to scan them using the mobile app. Here's how:

When prompts asks you for details or if you get an agent, give this reference number (INV-48968). Tell them that you can't add the receipts and you need to be added to the affected users list.
