Join nowI am using Enterprise and want to import my budget for the year. We made a large change in 2020 to our Chart of Accounts and now use a number system. When I export the iif file, and make the updates, and try to import, it fails. I get the error: It's a list or transaction that is not supported by the IIF import process.
I am concerned it is the way it is reading my accounts. How do I get the import to work? I am also using classes as part of it. How can I get my budget imported either using excel or iff file ??
Let me guide you through how to import a budget without getting an error, ManSol.
You need to use the Excel file provided in QuickBooks when you create a new budget. Then, edit the exported file and enter your actual numbers.
Once done, import it back to QuickBooks. Doing this will help ensure you are using the correct IIF format.
There are two options to create a new budget without having to enter the data manually. You can either import the last year's budget or selecting Create budget from the previous year's actual data option. This lets you copy an existing budget by using the accounts that you already have and modifying the amount.
To start, you may want to print the last year's Profit and Loss Detail report to review last fiscal year's data. After that, please refer to the steps below based on how you want to copy the information entered on last year's budget.
To upload Intuit Interchange Format (.IIF) files:
To create one budget per fiscal year based on the previous year's data:

Thanks for coming back to us, @ManSol.
Usually, this error occurs when your data is damaged or corrupted. We can run the Verify/Rebuild tool utility to detect the data damage.
Here's how:
If QuickBooks doesn't find any problems, select OK. However, if QuickBooks finds an issue with your company file, click Rebuild Now.
Also, make sure QuickBooks has its latest release. This is to ensure that everything is up to date.

I am having the same issue with the errors in the iif file. I have been uploading the file the same way for years, but this year, all of the rows are erroring out.
Did the rebuild work to allow for the iif file to upload?
I am trying that now to see if I am able to upload the iif budget file without errors.
Thanks.

Thanks for joining in on the thread, Stacy.
I hope you're doing good! I'd like to add information to resolve the error.
If you haven't tried the Verify and Rebuild data utilities, I suggest doing so, but please don't forget to back up your file before running the rebuild tool. You can also update your QuickBooks to fix any damaged program files that may have caused this error.
If the error is not resolved, please consult the support of your IIF file provider, so they can inspect its contents. I've also seen a poster sharing information about importing IIF files. Please check this out: https://intuit.me/3gK71CK

Good morning.
Thanks for the reply. I rebuilt overnight, most errors were fixed, but there are some that I need to contact QB support about. I did try the iif file upload again and it did not work.
When you say, contact the iif provider--who would that be-QB? I exported the iif file from QB directly, removed the exported data and added (copy/pasted) that 2022 data to the file and then imported into QB, that failed with all errors.
I will be contacting QB about the errors not fixed and the iif file import not working.
Thank you.
