Budget vs Actual Report Customization Options

Greetings!  I'm getting frustrated with the limited options in QB Online standard BvA reports.  I have budgets set up for customers.  I can pull the BvA by customer report, BUT I also need to option to filter the report by Class, which is not available.  Does anyone know a work around or a different way I can do this?

I tried to build a custom report by adding columns but looks like QB Online does not allow me to pull in any columns from the budget... which is just baffling to me.  Am I missing something? Why in the world would I not be able to access my budgets from the CUSTOM reports menu?

Budget vs Actual Report Customization Options

It's nice to have you here in the Community, @jdcafe.

Let me help and provide information about Budget and Actual Reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, the option to filter the report by class is unavailable. As a workaround, I recommend exporting the two manually and then merging the data into a single report since the budget report by class and customer is separate.

Here's how to export reports:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Search for and select the report you want to export.
  3. At the top of the report, select the Export icon. Then select Export to Excel.
  4. Save the file somewhere you can easily find, like your Downloads folder or your desktop.

In regards to the custom reports, ensure to properly save them to show the reports and customize them.

For your future reference, you can check these articles to guide you about the custom reports tab and to manage custom reports:

Please let me know if you have other questions about the reports and export or other QBO-related concerns. I’ll be right here with you.

Budget vs Actual Report Customization Options

Thanks for the feedback. I understand your suggestion but Exporting multiple reports and trying to customize in excel defeats the whole purpose on an accounting software report writer. It’s a very simple filter that in my opinion should have implemented from the beginning. Do you know if they are planning to release an update with that class filter option in the near future?

Budget vs Actual Report Customization Options

On behalf of my colleague, you're welcome, @jdcafe, and I appreciate you for checking in on this feature again.

I can see how the ability to filter the report by class would benefit your business. While the support team can help you raise your voice and share your ideas, it's ultimately up to our engineering team to choose and prioritize new features.

Many factors go into determining the QuickBooks development roadmap, and customer suggestions are a big part of it. Once you submit feedback, our engineers will undergo extensive measures to validate its usage and effectiveness. That said, we currently don't have a specific timeframe for when this feature will be available. You can always visit our Customer Feedback page for updates about the status of your suggestion.

In the meantime, you'll want to follow the workaround shared by my peer above.

Aside from customizing reports, you may also want to personalize and add specific info to your sales forms. Check out this article for the process: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts.

We appreciate your understanding while waiting for this feature. If you have other concerns about customizing reports in QuickBooks Online, comment below, and we'll provide the necessary help.
