Budget vs Actual reports

I'm on your side here, shutthefrontdior.

Thank you for sharing the steps you've made before posting here in the Community forum. I also appreciate you providing screenshots. I can share why the $ Over Budget and Budget columns are blank on the Budgets vs. Actual report in QuickBooks Desktop.

The source of the budget is associated with the accounts, not the customer's name. That's why you should filter the report by Name as it'll show an empty field on the said columns.

You'll want to filter the report by accounts to show the actual budget. Let me show you how to choose a different account.

  1. On the Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual report, click Account.
    filter by account.PNG
  2. Choose a different one from the Account drop-down.
    filter by account1.PNG
  3. Click OK to save the changes.

QuickBooks Desktop has budgeting and forecasting tools to help you plan and make smart business decisions. Most budgets are static and set for the company’s fiscal year. Use this article to learn how to use existing data on the company file and set the fiscal year for your budgets: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop.

Knowing report source and targets is particularly important when filtering reports. This article will tell you more about the basic information when making changes to the data on the report: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I hope this clears your confusion while customizing the Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual report. You can always get back to me by commenting below if you have follow-up questions about this. I'll be glad to help you. Have a good one.

Budget vs Actual reports

I'm not seeing how I can run a Budget vs Actual report where the actuals for a partial year are compared to the total annual budget ... in Quickbooks Online.  Is this possible?  As it is, I have to dump it in excel and manually change things.

Let me know if this option exists because I'm not seeing it.

Hi, @Shirley.

I assure you I can help you with your Budget vs. Actual report.

Yes, there's an option to compare the partial year and total annual budget by pulling up the Budget vs. Actual report. Let me show you how.

  1. At the left navigation panel, click Reports.
  2. In the search bar, type Budget vs. Actuals.
  3. Under the Report period, you can customize the date you want to see in your report.
  4. Click Run report.

You can customize your report if you want to filter specific details or format.

If you have any additional concerns besides reports, please let us know. Stay safe!

Budget vs Actual reports

In QBO, I can either run a YTD vs the Whole Annual Budget or for a defined period (both reflected in the actuals and the budget.

For example, I want to run the Actuals for the year to Last Month, comparing to the entire Annual Budget.  I'm not seeing this option in the customizations.

I hope this is clear ... what am I missing?

Thanks,

Shirley

Budget vs Actual reports

Hi, @shirley-soh.

Currently, the option to compare the actuals for the year up to last month with the entire annual budget is limited to viewing it by period. I recognize your need for the said specific report in QBO.

If you'd like to make the desired comparison, there's a helpful option available to you. You can export the report from QuickBooks Online (QBO) and customize it to suit your specific requirements. This way, you'll have the flexibility to tailor the report according to your needs.

We value your input and want to make QuickBooks Online (QBO) even better for you. If you have a specific feature in mind that you'd like to see added to QBO in the future, we encourage you to share your feedback with our engineers.

Let me walk you through on sending feedback:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Then, select Feedback under the Profile section.
  3. Please provide a summary of the feature you would like to request.
  4. Lastly, Click Next once done.

I would like to share this article to learn specific ways to customize your reports to get awesome insights. Here's the topic you can utilize for reference: Common custom reports in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any further questions about QuickBooks or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to assist you.
