If you are using QB Payment, you have to do it manually. Otherwise, consider using a 3rd party merchant service to do it automatically.

I'll share additional information about adding a credit card processing fee to the customer invoices.
Currently, the option to add it automatically isn't possible. Instead, you can charge your customer the credit card processing fee by manually adding it as a line item to their invoice. I'll show you how.

Many states outlaw the practice of adding credit card processing fees to customer invoices. Make sure yours isn't one of them. And, it looks bad. It's like a retailer adding a "rent fee" because you decided to shop in-store instead of online.
I am very new to QB's so if you add the credit card fee to the invoice, will QB's charge on the additional net amount? Say, if the invoice is 1000 and we add a 3% fee, bringing my invoice up to 1030, will QB's charge a 3% (rounding this out) on 1030? the whole point is to pass the fee and there isn't anywhere that QBs have built into their system to do this as far as I can tell. Sorry if I sound nuts.
I got you, @Retirementkid. The option to add the charge that auto-calculates the credit card processing fee for your customer's invoice is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.
We will need to enter the detailed calculation manually in your invoice. We can indicate in the Description section the percentage and other details.
