Can I create a 1099 for a vendor in Canada? I'm having difficulty because it says the zip is wrong.

Hello there, d-morgan.

Allow me to share some information about 1099's in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The 1099 Efile Service is only designed to accommodate U.S. Zip codes. However, you can still file this form manually. I'd be happy to walk you through the steps below:

  1. From the Vendors tab, click Prepare 1099s.
  2. Click Get started.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions. Click Next.
  4. Click Finish preparing 1099s.
  5. Select I'll file myself. Choose this option to print both 1099 and1096.
  6. Select a form type (1099/1096). Preview and print sample.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Select vendors to print. Select Next.
  9. Print your 1099/1096 forms.

Here's an article to learn more about printing and mailing 1099's to the IRS: Prepare and file your 1099s using QuickBooks Online.

If you need assistance in doing this, I recommend you get in touch with our Care Support Team. Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
  2. Select  QuickBooks Online.
  3. Select a category under “What can we help you with?”.
  4. Scroll down the page, then click the Get Phone Number.

That's it. If there's anything else you'd like to know about this, please let me know. I'm always here to help.

Is it possible to print 1099's on plain paper for the IRS?

Thank you for taking the time to post today, Laurie61!

You may contact the IRS to ask if they accept 1099 forms on plain paper. However, that QuickBooks will only print the values in the 1099 boxes. It won't print the form template.

You can refer to the article my colleague shared above if you need a reference when printing 1099 forms.
