Hi couturd,

You can adjust the description column by following these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Under Your Company, click Custom Form Styles.
  3. Click the Edit link of the default invoice template.
  4. Click the Content tab.
  5. Click the Activity section on the preview image to show the options.
  6. Click the Edit Labels and Widths link.
  7. Move the slider to adjust the widths (moving it will affect the widths of other columns as well).
  8. Click Done

Then, try to preview the invoice.

Can I get my description line larger so my invoice won't look like a list but a real description. The pdf version has big empty gap between description and total $?

Hi - I uploaded a custom form. I used one based on an example from QB so I knew it would work. All of the fields seem to work ok BUT the  <ItemDescription> was only pulling one line. So, I made white space below it but then it only showed the description that would fit in that space and cut off the rest. Then, If i picked anther item below it and that 2nd item had a shorter description, it left a huge blank space on the page there --- I had an advanced QB online package for 10+ years and just downgraded last week because I was not using all of it. Can i fix this in Basic? When I follow the directions below, it does not allow me to edit the form - it says - Preview PDF and not edit!

I have also seemed to have lost my custom fields in basic too and that was not clear when I spoke to the QB man and downgraded! UGH!

Please help!

Hello DAVIDatSBG,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I'm here to provide some additional clarification on your concern about the custom invoice form in QuickBooks Online.

The complete features of the sales form templates such as the custom fields are only available in the Essentials, Plus, and Advance version. I understand how important making the invoice look presentable for you and your business, but this is still unavailable in Simple Start.

To know more on this, please check out the article I'm adding below:

How to add custom fields to invoices.

For your concern about the information cutting off due to the extra space, I recommend switching to a different supported browser. By doing so, we'll be able to determine if the problem is browser-related.

If there's a need for you to upgrade to a higher version QuickBooks, I'm attaching the support link for additional insights on this:
