Can I use bundle items as a way to track the conversion of a single bulk raw good into many single items?

I purchase a raw good that comes in a 25kg spool. I convert that into 25 seperate 1kg items. So each bundle item is 1/25th so would I enter and would it except .04 as the QTY for the entry in the bundle item? Also I already created tracked inventory items for the single kilo items which means I cannot convert them to bundle items to do this. Does that mean I have to erase all of that work and start over... Can anyone offer me clarity on this, I am lost.

Thanks.

Can I use bundle items as a way to track the conversion of a single bulk raw good into many single items?

Good day, -Brandon.

Allow me to share some information about bundle items in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks Online only allows you to enter the quantity when creating a bundle. However, you can use a third-party application to convert it to specific kg units.

You may want to visit our QuickBooks Apps store to find the right apps for your business needs. You can review the product and see its ratings and reviews as well.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Apps.
  2. Type the keyword in the Search field.
  3. Select the app you wish to use and check for reviews.
  4. Click Get the app now.

In addition, here's a clip sharing the nature of using the bundled items: How to Use Bundles: Grouping Products & Services?

I've added a helpful source to give you insights into tracking and managing your products in QBO: Set up and track your inventory in QuickBooks Online.

If you have additional questions about creating bundled items in QBO, please don't hesitate to post again here. I'm always around to help. Keep safe.

@P3D-Brandon

You need a 3rd party inventory management to do so.

Can I use bundle items as a way to track the conversion of a single bulk raw good into many single items?

Yeah I mean I don't need it to say the units. I just tested it. I made a bundle item, "TEST-KILO" and I assigned it the SKU for the 25KG Supply roll but in the QTY field I put .04 so that is exactly 1/25th or a 1 kilo of the 25 kilo supply roll. Therefore when I sell the "TEST-KILO" spool item it removes a kilo from the 25kg SKU... So it is possible.... Surprised everyone said no it isn't possible so quick.

My problem is I have already created all my single kilo SKUs as Inventory Items and now as I understand it I cannot convert those SKUs to Bundles... How do I preserve sales data against the existing SKU, rename it so I can use that SKU name for the new Bundle SKU and then still connect the old renamed item sales with the newly created bundle SKU?

Love to get some help on this. I have read a lot of the Quickbooks materials already.

Best,

Brandon

Thanks for reaching back to us and providing some details about your concern, @P3D-Brandon.

Yes, you're right. We're unable to convert SKUs to bundles. What we can do is create a new bundle item and then manually input transactions in the old items using the new bundle.

I'll walk you through the process:

  1. Go to Sales then select Products and Services.
  2. Select New, then choose Bundle.
  3. Enter a Name for the product or service and an SKU, if you track them.
  4. Fill out the rest of the field, then click Save and Close

For the detailed process, refer to this article: Add product and service items to QuickBooks Online.
