This has been requested over 2 years ago. Any updates?
Thank you for getting back to us, @ryantollefson.
I understand how important this is to you that you have submitted feedback two years ago. Currently, adding discounts to early payment of vendor bills is still not available in QuickBooks Online(QBO). I'm here to provide a workaround for this feature.
Before we proceed, I recommend submitting feedback again. You can check the progress of the requested feature in our feedback forums.
You can use a vendor credit for the percentage discount. Follow the steps below:
Open the bill, then select Mark as paid to create a payment. Under the Credits area, look at the vendor credit.
Make sure the credit amount is automatically entered under Credit Applied if you used the Pay bills tool.
After recording and paying the bill, you can run a Profit and Loss Comparison Report.
Let me know and I'll gladly lend a hand if you need additional assistance in applying for vendor credit. Have a great day.
Isn't the whole point of having a computer and software so that we don't have to manually calculate anything?
Why even enter the bills I I have to dig them out and review the venders discount terms every time I pay a bill. Then use a $9 Calculator to figure out the discount? Well I guess using a $9 Calculator is cheaper than paying QB.
While I appreciate the response, this is a terrible solution.
This is completely impractical if you are paying a large amount of bills for one vendor.
We regularly pay 30-50 bills for a single vendor with terms discounts. Adding this up manually is a complete waste of time for something that the developers could add with a few hours of work.
This has also been a feature of Quickbooks desktop for years. It's sad to see this basic accounting feature missing from your newer flagship product.
Another month, any updates?
Hello, @ryantollefson. I'm here to provide you update regarding providing discounts on early vendor bill payment.
Currently, the option to add discounts on early payment is still unavailable in QuickBooks Online. We understand how valuable this feature is in running your business.
Same with my colleagues, I'd also suggest sending us feedback about this one more time. Your suggestion will be sent to our product engineers, This also helps us enhance your QBO experience. Lastly, you can review feature updates by browsing through our webpage: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
Here's an article about handling vendor reimbursements in QuickBooks: Manage vendor credits and refunds in QuickBooks Online.
Hit the Reply button to notify us if you have other queries about this matter or QuickBooks in general. We're available 24/7. Take care!
I've provided feedback as suggested, but this still doesn't work. It's almost as if Inuit doesn't listen to their customers. :(
I am also ready to make the switch to QBO, but the extremely important factor of applying a discount to an invoice is huge in my world. I pay up to 150 vendors each month all having different terms. Manually creating a vendor credit for each invoice is extremely time consuming and frustrating. A remedy HAS to be created before I switch over. I really wanted to make the switch for the new year, but it looks like I will have to hold off. Please find a fix Intuit!!!
My company found a work around although you still need to calculate the discount on your own:
We created a GL#, 85115 A/P Discounts Earned, that I enter on the second line of the category details section and when you put the discount amount in the amount box you make that number a negative. Of course you still need to enter the regular payment info and GL# on line 1 of the category section
It saves from at least having to create a separate credit voucher to take a discount.
Quickbooks online version is the absolute worst product on the market. BASIC functions such as an early pay discount should not have to be done in multiple (TIME CONSUMING) steps. This is supposed to be accounting software NOT an insurance marketplace, workers comp solicitation, HR compliance etc. People are tired of getting revisions to promote your other products but can't get a revision to address the topics that actually matter.
This is the main reason I wont switch to qb online. HAS QB RESOLVED THIS ISSUE YET?
THE SOLUTION YOU HAVE IS RIDICULOUS
Nope, still an issue.
Almost a year later. Still an issue. Any updates?
Hi there, @ryantollefson.
Calculating and applying discounts automatically when completing early payments is essential for everyone in this thread. I understand its convenience as the feature makes work more efficient.
I can see that this request is almost a year now. Please know that your voice matters. However, the feedback enactment relies on the number of users' requests. We're also unable to provide a timeline for its implementation.
If you like to share this idea again, follow the steps below. Our Product Development Team might reconsider it. Rest assured that we're working to provide the best for users like you.
You can track your suggestion through this website. You can also visit our blog to keep up with recent events and developments.
In the meantime, entering vendor credits and refunds are the workaround provided in the program to achieve your goal. Not to worry, we have various methods for every specific situation.
For more tips about tracking bills and recording payments, refer to this guide: Enter and manage bills and bill payments in QuickBooks Online.
We value your opinions and are doing what we can to help you get the most out of QuickBooks. Post here again if you have additional concerns regarding the vendor bill. I'll be more than happy to help you out again. Take care.
@JamaicaA I do appreciate your response. Thank you.
I have done the feedback option many times, it feels like a black hole that is never addressed. This doesn't make it feel like my voice matters.
Looking back at this thread, the issue is over 3 years old. I'm not the only one struggling with this. This is a fairly typical accounting option, it's unfortunate that QBO doesn't support it.
I have also prevented a lot of other users (in our franchise system) from switching over to QBO because of this issue.
I will do my best to a bit more gracious and cordial than some of the other comments in this thread, however, I must say I agree that this should absolutely be a 100% priority on QB's upgrade list. Seeing as it was a common and helpful feature in Desktop, I'm not sure what could possibly be so hard about implementing this simple, yet hugely useful tool. Please, please, please put this feature at the top of the list. Three years of begging from your clients speaks pretty loudly. Thank you!
Absolutely appalling that this issue is not solved. I called the help desk and they tell me to leave a comment under feedback. That is obviously useless as this has been done for 3 years and nothing has changed.
During the last quarter of 2022, we made the switch apprehensively from Desktop to QBO and after the migration, we discovered prompt pay discounts cannot be calculated. It was shocking and upsetting. We immediately switched back to Desktop. Talk about a lot of work for nothing. A year later, still no update to QBO? Right now, we are seriously looking at other options because we get the feeling that eventually, desktop will no longer be available.
I understand that this feature is beneficial for your business, @tln2.

Still wont switch because of this. How is it an upgrade if you lose features. will be switching software
Working on 4 years... I just don't think Intuit cares. Although Intuit did manage to move everything around on my home screen for a second time in a month. Updates that a purely aesthetic seem to be the only thing that gets done.
We have just changed from your desktop version to the online version. Most things work but there are some basics missing in the online version--like automatically taking discounts on bills we are paying. It was available on the desktop version, but not online. My bookkeeper says it seems like we downgraded our accounting software. We thought we were upgrading. Many basic things are missing from the online version. We are very disappointed.
How about switching back to QB Desktop?
