QBO does not have a line item discount in the US versions, easiest thing is to manually change the item sales price

Let me share additional information, @waleed3.

You can consider using a discount service item to apply a discount to one or more items on the invoice. To do that, you'll need to create a discount service item first before applying it on the invoice. Once created, you can manually calculate the discount amount based on the percentage.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. At the top right, select New.
  4. Choose Service for Products/Services type, then complete the information needed.
    • In the Name field, enter Discount. If you plan to create multiple discount percentages, you can enter the percentage and Discount for the name (Example: 10% Discount).
    • In the Sales price/rate field, enter the discount amount as a negative. (You can manually calculate the discount amount based on the percentage promo)
    • From the Income account drop-down, select Discounts given account.
    • In the Sales tax category section, it depends on your state if sales tax is calculated after discounts are applied then mark the discount line taxable.
  5. Click Save and close.

Once done, you can now use the Discount item on an estimate. Here's how:

  1. Click the Plus (+) icon.
  2. Select Estimate.
  3. Choose the appropriate customer.
  4. Add the product and services, then enter the total amount of the item.
  5. Select the Discount item on the next line.
  6. Click Save and close.

Line Item Discount is a standard feature. Intuit needs to step up their game.

I agree that it is terrible. The most professional way that I've found to work around this (PC version) is to enter the item and quantity as I normally would. Then right below it, I enter the same item but in the QTY I enter a negative number. This doesn't help for percentages, but if you do a Buy 2 Get 1 Free type of situation, enter a Qty of 3 on the first line and enter a Qty of -1 on the next.

It's great to have you chiming in on this thread, Mahrieah. I've got insights to share what discount-given accounts are for when adding these as a line item or percentage in QuickBooks Online.

When enabling the discounts feature to your sales form transactions, QuickBooks automatically creates a Discounts given account in your Chart of Accounts to track any discounts you give to your customers.

Thus, if you want to record these discounts to a specific income type of account, you can modify them in your company's account and settings. To do this:

  1. In your QBO account, go to Accounts and Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Choose the Chart of Accounts section.
  4. Under Discount Account, select an income account.
  5. Then, click Save and Done

Additionally, I'm adding these resources to aid in personalizing and receiving customer-paid invoices:

Hello there, Adam. Allow me to chime into this thread and get this into detail.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can create a service item for the discount to make it nontaxable then subtotal each line item amount for it to calculate each discount in the Product & Services.

To do this, you can turn on the feature first and create discounts on the Product and Services page wherein you can add them to your invoice by choosing the correct discount. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Sales tab on the menu.
  3. In the Sales form content section, select the pencil icon to edit.
  4. Choose the Discount checkbox to turn it on.
  5. Click Save and then Done.

To create a discount for the items, please follow these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then Products and Services.
  2. Click New to create a new item.
  3. Select Non-inventory or Service for the type.
  4. Name the item Discount.
  5. In the Sales price/rate field, enter the discount as a negative amount.
  6. From the Income account drop-down menu, select the Discount given account. QuickBooks creates this account for you when you turn on the discount feature.
  7. From the Sales tax category drop-down menu, select Nontaxable.
  8. Click Save and close.
