I'm trying to build a custom P&L, but when I run the report using the filter by distribution account customization, it is including all the accounts, including the ones I did not select in the drop down. Any ideas on why this would be happening?
Hey @arthurb,
Let me guide you in performing some troubleshooting steps to successfully apply filters on your Profit and Loss report.
When filtering your reports, they are automatically applied after clicking on Run Report. Also, when you filter the Distribution Account for the report, make sure that you choose the specific account instead of the general filters.
If it's not applying the filters, you'll need to filter it using a private browser to isolate if it's a browser issue. You may use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:
If you're able to view the report with the applied filter, then you'll need to offload some data from your default browser. You can clear your browser's cache to remove temporary internet files and improve its performance.
But if you're still unable to view the report correctly, you may need to run it using a different browser.
Don't hesitate to tag me in your comment if you have any other concerns. I'll be around to help you.
Hi Alessandra, we are using the downloaded version of QBO so there is no browser to reset. I am choosing specific accounts rather than general filters. I tried it on a reset Google Chrome browser to see if that might help, and it did not. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Jonpril, I am doing that and it isn't working. I want to see each account I have checked, including those with 0 balance for the year. Is that possible? When I set it to include "all rows" (so it includes 0 balance) and have my distribution filter on, it includes rows I do not have checked.
Hello there, @arthurb.
Allow me to join the thread and help share additional information about running reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
When selecting All Rows/All Columns when running the Profit and Loss report in QBO, it'll will really include all accounts with zero balance. As of now, we don't have the option to just include the distribution account you've selected.
However, you can run the Account List report to check each account balances. You may customize the report or export the report to Excel and customize the report from there. To run the report, look for Account List on the report's search field.

It seems that choosing "Active Rows" would allow then the option of displaying the Distribution Accounts chosen and only the Distribution Accounts chosen. But Active Rows seems to be no different than "non-zero" rows. Is there a difference? This is a huge problem to not allow a report that shows exactly which rows (income & expense accounts) that I want to see each time I run the report. If I choose All Rows I get all of these default accounts that I don't want and can't delete. Can we get this fixed?
Hi there, kwink.
Yes, there's a difference between the Active Rows and Non-zero rows in the profit and loss report. The active rows option is to show all active accounts but still appears zero especially if the amount was offset and used in transactions. The Non-zero option is to view specific amounts associated with accounts.
On the other hand, to view the accounts accurately, I suggest making sure you choose the correct income & expense accounts when customizing the Filter. Then, the exact date of the report. This way, you're able to use or show the report based on what you want to see.
