customer balance summary - how to get rid of credit amounts

I'm trying to only show the customers who owe money in a summary (it's actually a small group of condo owners) and I want to show just the list of people who have open balances.

Customer balance summary works but it also show people who have credits which is confusing people.

I tried to add a filter to only put amounts greater than zero but it shows amounts that totally make no sense.
Is there something else I can do?

customer balance summary - how to get rid of credit amounts

Good day, Sziskind.

Allow me to help you with viewing your customer open balance within QuickBooks Desktop.

You can pull up and run the Open Invoices to show all customers with open balances. Here's how:

1. Click Reports at the top menu bar.

2. On the drop-down list, click Customers & Receivables and select Open Invoices report.
3. Change the desired date.

4. You'll see all the outstanding credits in each customer under the Open Balance column.

customer balance summary - how to get rid of credit amounts

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, it didn't really solve my problem.

I don't want any negative balances to show. I liked the customer balance summary because it's very succinct and I think that's better to share with the condo owners.

I just want to be able to only show positive balances.

I attempted to do this by changing the amount to >= 0 and the data didn't make any sense when I did that. Is there a way for me to only specify certain condo owners? Again ideally I'd like to use the customer balance summary report but I'm fine using another report. Thanks.

Thanks for following up with the Community, Sziskind.

I'd recommend customizing your report and displaying columns by Customer:Job.

Here's how:

  1. From the report screen, click Customize Report.
  2. In your Columns section, find the Display columns by drop-down list and use it to choose Customer:Job.
  3. Select OK.

I've also included a detailed resource about customizing reports which may come in handy moving forward: Customize reports

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great Friday!

Thanks for your help but this isn't addressing my problem.

I'll include a screenshot to make it clearer.

First of all in display columns there is no option for customer: job.

And how is that going to change it from not showing customers who have a negative balance?

I hope the attached screenshot makes it clearer. I'd like to show the list I've attached without the vendors with the negative amounts (in this -221.14 and -.10)

Thanks

I can share additional information about customizing your report, @Sziskind.

You can set the Amount filter for this Customer Balance Summary report to >= 1.00 instead of 0.

Follow the steps below:

  1. From your Reports menu, after running the Customer Balance Summary.
  2. Click the Customize Report button and select the Filters menu.
  3. Under the Filter column, locate Amount
  4. Click the radio button for >= and enter 1.00.
  5. Once done, click on OK to run the report.

To help you further on how to customize your summary report, check out this article: Customize customer, job, and sales reports in QuickBooks Desktop. It'll guide you on what to do in the DisplayFiltersHeader/FooterFonts & Numbers tab.

From here, you can save the current settings or filter that you set to run this same report in the future. See this article on how to access, edit, delete, and resolve issues you'll possibly encounter memorizing a report: Create, access and modify memorized reports

Let me know in the Reply section if you need further help with your report. Keep safe, and have a wonderful day!

Great idea, thanks.

Not sure why though but it didn't do anything. I'm still getting the same as before. I'm very very perplexed because that should have solved it.
