Deferred Revenue setup in Products and Services

A little over a month ago my company upgrade to QBO Advanced so we can utilize the deferred revenue option the program offered. We are a SaaS company and it is necessary for us to correctly record our sales this way.

When I set it up originally it was all done through the Products and Services tabs. I had to go in and create the schedules for the year. My issue is that I went back in the same area of the Products and Services to create other schedules and the option is no longer there. I went to the other section that is labeled as the Advanced accounting under recognizing revenue and do not see a place to set it up there either.

Apparently the feature was updated recently and have not been able to find anything that outlines how this specific part works anymore.

Anyone out there have this same issue that can provide me with some help? Much appreciated.

I spent an hour with a customer service associate and they were not able to assist me at all.

Thanks for providing ample details about your concern when trying to set up products and services to deferred revenue, FThompson.

Allow me to share the steps on how to set up a new schedule and assign items to it. Here's how:

  1. Go back to the Revenue recognition tab under the Advanced accounting menu.
  2. You'll see a drop-down list beside Manage settings, click on that and choose Assign product/services.
  3. You can also click Manage templates to set up new deferred revenue schedule.
  4. Click Assign template to products/services.

If you are unable to locate the options, a possible browser and other technical issues are preventing certain features and buttons from appearing on the program.

To resolve some of the most common browser issues when using QBO, allow me to guide you through additional steps. Here's how:

  1. Use a private/incognito browsing session or restart your browser.
  2. Clear your browser's cache.
  3. Add Intuit as a trusted site.

I can share which QBO plan allows you to create a deferred revenue report, @86Aggie.

The ability to create a deferred revenue and its reporting capability is exclusive to the QBO Advanced version. It offers automated revenue recognition, which helps in recording payments for the associated products and services you set up.

If you’re using QBO Plus, consider upgrading your plan for exclusive access to deferred revenue features and its reporting.

On the other hand, if you're already utilizing a QBO Advanced version, here are some easy steps to access the Revenue Recognition Report within QBO:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Reports tab on the left navigation panel.
  3. Search for Revenue Recognition Report.

  4. Adjust the Report Period and Columns if necessary.

Moreover, you can memorize a report in QBO to save its current customization settings for future needs.

I'm all ears for any additional questions about creating a deferred revenue report. See you around.
