Yes but I don't want to have to switch all the time. Every time I pull a report, I have to always change it from modern to classic view and its mad annoying. Give us the option to keep classic on perm!
I switched to the new invoice and got used to it. Yesterday I somehow accidentally switched back and now I hate the old layout. How do I get back to the new layout??? I've done everything suggested online and don't have the option anywhere to switch it back. Any help would be tremendous.
Hello there, @PlumbingDr.
We can see the urgency of this matter and ensure to provide you with the details to help you resolve your query. But before anything else, if your account is newly created, the option to switch back to a new invoice experience is inside the invoice page. You'll only click the Try the new invoices beside Take a Tour. We'll gladly write down the steps to get you going:
However, if your account is old, the option isn't available on the invoice page. If this is the case, we'd recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team so they can assess your feature recommendation and consider adding it for future program updates. We'll write down the steps to get you going:
In addition, we've got these articles to help you manage invoice payments, and ensure your numbers stays accurate inside QBO:
You can post here again if you have any additional QuickBooks-related queries or need help accomplishing goals inside the program. We've got you covered, and we'll assist you right away.
So I suddenly had the new invoices appear on my Quickooks online three days ago.
I have followed all the suggestions and spent over an hour on the chat to Quickbooks help as I cannot add the payment options to the new invoice. I simply get blue or green swirling dots.
I am annoyed that this has happened without any notification or accessible tutorials.
I am not certain where I go from here if the Online help cannot sort out my issues.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.
Thankfully I still have the option to use the old layout but for how long?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you
We deeply regret the inconvenience you may experience due to the new invoice layout, Helen.
We are currently in the process of rolling out the new feature, and we have not yet determined an exact date for when it will be accessible to everyone. For now, you can continue to utilize the old layout.
We consider feedback from our customers to create a more user-friendly and efficient design and aim to provide you with the best possible experience while implementing the necessary improvements to our invoicing system.

The QBO mobile app recently updated and I do not like the new layout. It removes the ability to collect a signature from the customer for completed work. Same with estimates, theres no way to collect a signature for work approval. As a plumber, I need signatures acknowledging the customer is agreeing to the scope of work and that I completed it as agreed. I simply don't understand why this would be removed. The new layout/functionality is a significant step backwards. Switching the invoice layout on the desktop/website doesn't make any change in the mobile app appearance or functionality. I can't find a way to switch back to the old layout for the mobile app and I'm upset that intuit would make such drastic changes to their product without appealing to their clients. Please give end users a way to choose the layout that works best for our needs/preferences!
The new look is horrible! This new way to invoice and receive payments is a waste of time with the added steps needed to complete the process!! Sadly, there is not a way to go back to the old layout - more waste of time in having to call to find out how to do so!
I can’t even express how frustrating the new layout and invoicing is. If you have a customer with a past due amount, new invoices only show the current month due and so the customer only pays that and ignores their past due amount. Oh, and you CAN go back to the old way, but you have to do it each individual customer instead of a blanket “go back to tree he old way on ALL” option. There’s so many terrible things about quickbooks and I never get any customer support. They know that it’s a pain in the butt to switch over, so they don’t listen to our concerns, but I’ve had it… after 10 years with the company I’m switching at the end of the year.
I am looking for alternative software now. Tired of the random changes for what looks to me like no reason and obviously no one wanted.
Hate it with a passion. Totally resent intuit making changes that don’t represent an increase an improvement. I can’t access the history by client or by invoice which the old view allows. Don’t get me started on the so called modern reposts. Worst thing ever. Do they not realize that to fit e is to make more keystrokes is unnecessary and so wrong minded. Wish they would focus on just making the program work. Rather than these totally unhelpful changes. And much less at crunch time at the end if the year. Do they even know who uses this program? Color me furious!
Couldn’t agree more! I’m going to start looking into how I can take all my clients off qbo and go back to d desktop. This is torture!
@smb2020 RE: I’m going to start looking into how I can take all my clients off qbo and go back to d desktop.
Wise plan!
"QuickBooks are releasing a new invoice layout that helps your land jobs and get paid faster."
Can I ask sincerely what information you are basing this statement on? I don't think that QBO cares what feed back they get from the majority of small businesses anymore. I know that anytime software changes there will always be someone that doesn't like it. I get that. This change has some fundamental problems that after 6 months have not been adjusted. You are just about to force us to make this change and yet you don't seem to have made any changes based on the feedback here and on other forums.
I have around 600 individually invoiced customers and of those I would say we print out the invoice for 3/4 of them. What use is there to have the "Ways to pay" with credit cards printed on each invoice if a customer pays by check? I will tell you. Because if the customer pays with a check they don't pay qbo anything. There is also a "Pay Invoice" button on a printed pdf
You guys are running a huge company with a lot of ideas in the pot. Credit where its due that 90% of the time the product works and gets out of the way. This is just an example of what happens when someone in authority decides something is going to happen. Then, even when they are pushed back on by there customers, they refuse to listen bc they think they are ahead of even the people using the products. Please listen to us guys, this one isn't fully baked. Don't force us to use it until it is, theres no rush and what we have now works!
(also you moved my logo on the invoice and the GIANT bar where the company name and invoice details are at are a huge waste of ink. )
sadly desktop will no longer be available next year from what I read online
Truly the worst decision yet. On the 11th all my existing customized templates will apparently cease to exist, with no way to duplicate them in the "New Improved?????" interface.
After 10 years with QBO it looks like they finally gave us a reason to move to a different platform.
Sad that they didn't poll the client base before making such a drastic change.
unfortunately they will not. It seems Intuit has been on a huge money grab over the last 8 yers and forced everyone to pay an exuberant amount for a sup par service. Then uncharge to have functionality like an account app should. And yes their invoices and proposals look like someone made them in a word doc from 1996
LOL
I also saw that the new invoice layout is permanent, no more switching back to old layout. So yea, they don't really care about our needs.
The new layout of invoices is awful. I would never choose to send this to my customers if I had an option. I can understand making changes, but not being able to choose what our invoice looks like is ridiculous. At least they could have given us options, or to make the changes but to be able to keep the same look of our invoices would be beneficial. This sucks. I'm embarrassed that this is what my company's invoices now look like now. Shame on you QB
I despise it. You took away the ability to pay the invoice from the invoice. What used to be a one step process, create invoice, take payment. Now requires me to create invoice. Then go to a seperate "PAYMENT" tab, go to the invoice BUT it is just a number without information, so I am always concerned that it is not the correct invoice or amount.
I DESPISE IT.
Absolutely, it looks like some yahoos made a "pretty" without even going through a workflow. HOW can you take away functionality and call it better. And you DID take away the ability to pay the invoice ON THE INVOICE.
You don't value our suggestions, all of these were completely ignored as you went ahead anyway. Don't spin it. You've reduced functionality and it appears you don't even know how a workflow is happening. Very sad.
Now let's raise the price again.
YOu can switch back for a little while until we force you too.
Pay $25 bucks a month to use a downloaded affiliate "Quotient" for their proposals, look more professional but not great. It basically is a CRM that transfers over to QB, which converts QB over to a glorified checkbook.
I 100% hate the new invoices. I need to reload my QB 2005 and ditch this crap
Evidently, it is now impossible to revert to the standard (old) invoice layout. I wasted 2.5 hours of my day trying to figure out how to get the “standard” invoice layout back. In the past, an option was provided every time it was changed without authorization. Now, the option is provided if you dig for it but it does nothing. The standard invoice has been permanently replaced by the awful “modern” layout and no notice was provided. I only learned this be eventually speaking with a QB tech. She also had not only not been notified about the permanent change, it took her a very long time to find even the distressing news. I see online that many QB customers complained about this new layout going way back with the temporary offerings. I was forced to use it today and it was NOT pleasant. You have an extra click to open the "Product or service" field after each line entry rather than simply being able to cursor to it as before. I had 10 line items to enter and one entry bled over onto a second page which is bad on many fronts including using more paper if printing hard copies is necessary, using more hard drive space if saving outside of QB is needed, causing more paper usage for customers if faxing is required, more hard drive space if customers are saving on their end, and they're just not attractive to the eye. I had to spend time I didn't have cutting and pasting to fit everything to one page to fax and please a customer. NOT HAPPY!
