Yes, Julie. You can run the Unbilled Costs by Job report and customize it by Customer Type for the desired information. I'd be glad to show you how.

  1. Go to Reports, select Jobs, Time & Mileage, then Unbilled Costs by Job.
  2. Click the Customize Report tab.
  3. Tick Filters.
  4. Then, pick the Customer Type filter.
  5. Hit OK.

I'm sharing this article for additional reference on how to personalize your report: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

In addition,  you have the convenient option to memorize your customized reports. This feature allows you to save the specific settings of a report, so you don't have to repeat the customization steps each time you need it.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance with generating reports or anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out, Julie. We're here to help make your accounting as smooth and efficient as possible.

That gives me the costs (billable purchases) but not time entered by employees.  How do I get a report with time recorded to a customer?  I use the time tracking feature inside QB.

Thanks for your prompt and detailed response, Julie. I recognize how you wanted to get this report.

You can pull up the Timesheet reporting in QuickBooks Desktop to get a closer view of this report. To do so, run the Time by Job Detail to get the specific detail you want. This report outlines the time employees enter with a customer.

Here's how to run this report:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Jobs, Time & Mileage.
  2. Choose Time by Job Detail.
  3. Adjust the Dates.
  4. Run the report.

These steps will help you view unbilled time by the customer. Here's a sample snippet:

Moreover, you can memorize this report to access this format moving forward.

I'll look forward to your future replies. Comment below if you have additional questions or concerns about running and customizing detailed timesheet reporting. We can always assist you here.

Allow me to chime into this conversation, Julie. I've got the information as to why customizing the Time by Job Detail report to show customer type is not an option.

Since we can't add a customer type when generating a billable time, filtering a time entry-related report to display this information is unavailable. We can only organize the report to unveil a specific Customer:Job. Here's how:

  1. Open the Time by Job Detail report and click the Customize Report button.
  2. Go to the Filters tab, then choose Customer:Job from the Filter list.
  3. Select the job/customer you want to display from the All customers/jobs dropdown. You can also show Multiple customers/jobs.
  4. Once done, hit OK.

Alternatively, you can export the report and sort its data by customer type. Just click the Excel dropdown and choose Create New Worksheet. Then, manage your entries from there.

You may also save your reporting modifications for future use. Doing so helps you review your transactions smoothly according to your preference.

If there's anything else that I can help you with the Time by Job Detail report, kindly tag me on this thread. I'm always willing to assist.

If the customer type is on the customer profile, seems reasonable that we should be able to sort by that.  I was hoping there was a simpler way.  Thanks
