While it's legal to charge processing fees to customers in some areas, other states have prohibited businesses from adding a surcharge to transactions. Intuit has chosen to not allow this practice through QuickBooks Payments accounts, so there's no specific feature for it. Funds could be placed on hold for investigation if we identify that surcharges are taking place, so we don't have any workarounds to recommend. For this reason, I advise against doing it.
Even if this feature was possible on these types of accounts, we'd still charge you a fee for any amount processed. So there's ultimately no way around it. If surcharging is a legal practice where your business operates, you can take the payment in some way outside of Intuit and then record it into your books.
You can find further information about surcharging customers with a QuickBooks Payments account in the Merchant Agreement.
If you have any questions, I'm just a post away. Have a wonderful day!
As additional option, explore MP as payment service. No processing fee except credit card payment. You may ask your customer to utilize MP to pay by credit card and you get paid by bank transfer/check.

Hi,
Can I add a Customer Stripe processing fee without affecting Customer Credit balance e.g: to charge a customer fee and can record without line item in QuickBooks online?
Actually I have to record a fee separately due to my software limitation. If I've a Invoice ($100) and I push payment $100 and want to push a fee ($5.00) separately instead of one payment 105 (payment + Fee)?
Can I follow any other approached without line item to accomplish this? so all things keep smooth in Reconciliation and in Profit & Loss reports. Please advise. Thank you,
You need to use a 3rd party processor to put a Stripe payment link on your invoice.
Hi @Fiat Lux - ASIA
I've a software from where I collect the payment and charge the Fee to customer. e.g: The Invoice of $100 and I charge $105. but in my software I treat the payment without fee and also sync this.
so I am just avoiding the invoice line item creation due to a lot of changes have to do.
What software do you use to collect the payment?
I'm extending the mine software which offer Payment to QuickBooks online.
