Buy nowWe are currently setting up QuickBooks online and I am ready to enter our first budget for the upcoming year. I want to enter the budget by class and the - view budget for class is not showing up on the screen. My question is - does the system not allow you to set the budget up by class for the first year? Only the second year after you have collected data? Thanks.
Welcome aboard, @PW567.
I’ll be happy to walk you through enabling you to add a class when creating a budget in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
If you have QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced, you can easily add classes to your budget, regardless if it’s the first time you create them in your company file. But before that, we need to turn on class tracking first to enable you the option. Here’s how:

Hello RoseJillB. I have my classes all set up. I have also started to add the budget, but in the instructions it shows a drop down box - view budget for and you can select the class. This does not show up on my screen. We have online advanced so we should be able to enter by class. Next year will be the first year using QuickBooks - I just wanted to enter the budget by class. It seems like the system wants to look at prior years information. Confused.
Good to see you back, @PW567. I'm here to ensure you can create your first budget for each class in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
In creating a budget, you'll have to make sure that you have select Class in the Subdivide by drop-down and set a specific class for the Add subdivided budget for. Doing this will give you options in the View budget for drop-down.
