Error running the Deferred Compensation Report; Error: -2147221000 : Method 'GetModule of object 'IRunningInstanceInfo' failed

When one of our users (not all of us) runs the "Deferred Compensation Report" it gives her an error  Error: -2147221000 : Method 'GetModule of object 'IRunningInstanceInfo' failed.  See attachment.  I reinstalled Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions 23, ran the Program Problems in Tool Hub.  I also did a repair on Office 2013.  Nothing prevents this error.  Any ideas what I can do now?

Error running the Deferred Compensation Report; Error: -2147221000 : Method 'GetModule of object 'IRunningInstanceInfo' failed

Hi there, @Jo Shepherd.

I appreciate you performing some troubleshooting steps to get this issue resolved. No worries, I've come up with a solution that can help fix this error.

One of the possible reasons why you're getting the error message is because the version of your Office doesn't work with 64-bit. Please know that QuickBooks 2023 is 64-bit, therefore, it'll need a 64-bit version of Office to maximize performance. Once you have this version, make sure the latest release for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 and payroll updates are downloaded before attempting to open the Deferred Compensation report. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, then select Get Updates.
  3. When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install the update, select Yes.
  5. When the installation finishes, restart your computer.
  6. After that, you can now download the latest payroll tax table.

Once we get the latest updates installed things, the Deferred Compensation report is expected to work with your new 2023 version.

Come back to this post and let me know how it goes, @Jo Shepherd. I want to make sure you're taken care of.

Error running the Deferred Compensation Report; Error: -2147221000 : Method 'GetModule of object 'IRunningInstanceInfo' failed

@Mark_R I am trying to verify that the office 2013 is 64 bit but I'm guessing it would have to be in order to work with my 64bit computer ??

We updated the tax tables and it still is giving the same error.  Any other ideas?

Error running the Deferred Compensation Report; Error: -2147221000 : Method 'GetModule of object 'IRunningInstanceInfo' failed

Hi there, Jo Shepherd.

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding some verification on how office 2013 works with QuickBooks 2023. Also, for performing some steps to resolve the error message. With this, I'll be sharing troubleshooting steps to ensure your user is able to run the mentioned report without issue.

Office 2013 and 365 (including Outlook 2013) both work on 32 and 64-bit. Then, please know that 365 is only supported when it's locally installed, not the web version.

On the other hand, I recommend opening a sample company file since the issue continues to occur. This way, you're able to figure out whether the problem is with your company file or with the QuickBooks application.

Here's how to open a sample file:

  1. From the No Company Open window, choose Open a sample file.
  2. Select any sample file from the list.

If the sample file opens, your company file may be damaged, or the folder where the company file is saved may be damaged. With this, I suggest running the Verify and Rebuild Data Utilities to get this sorted out. The Verify Data utility identifies any potential data damage issues that might've caused an unexpected error while running the Deferred Compensation Report. While the Rebuild Data utility repairs damaged data in your company file. Before this, you'll have to secure a backup copy of your company file.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view various details on what your computer needs for the best experience in QuickBooks Desktop 2023: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

Let me know if you have other concerns with running the Deferred Compensation Report. I'm always free to help you whenever you need my assistance. Take care and stay safe always, Jo Shepherd.
