Excel 2019 Compatibility

Is Quickbooks Pro 2017 on a PC compatible with Excel 2019?

I purchased Office 2019 this week and now I can no longer export Quickbooks reports to Excel.  Would upgrading Quickbooks Pro help?  Any workarounds?

If you purchased office 365 you have to download excel to your computer as QB won't work with cloud based excel, otherwise I don't see why there would be an issue with a newer excel than QB version

I do have the desktop version of Excel thru Microsoft 2019 Home and Business running fully on the desktop.  I've repaired Quickbooks and Microsoft office thru the control panel with no luck.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community space, MikeMcM.

Thanks for providing us with details about the troubleshooting you did on your end. I'm here to share what I know about the supported versions of Microsoft Office.

The QuickBooks Desktop 2017 version currently supports Microsoft Excel 2016, 2013, 2010, and Office 365. You'll need to downgrade to the older version to be able to export reports.

For more information about the software compatibility, you can visit this article:

System requirements for QuickBooks 2017 and Enterprise Solutions 17.0.

If you need more help with the reports in QuickBooks, I'm here to help. You can add more information by clicking the Reply option.

Thanks for joining the conversation, T-Roy,

I have some information to give you about the software compatibility for QuickBooks Desktop 2017.

Currently, our Support Team has not yet released a specific timeline for QuickBooks 2017 to support Microsoft Office 2019. In the meantime, you can follow the workaround provided by my peer @AlcaeusF for you to export your reports.

I can see how beneficial this feature can be for your business so I'd encourage sending your product preference to out developers. Let me guide you how to do that:

  1. Click the Help menu bar.
  2. Scroll down to Send Feedback Online.
  3. Select Product Suggestion.
  4. Choose Product Suggestion for the Type of Feedback.
  5. Product Area is optional.
  6. Enter your suggestion.
  7. Click Send Feedback.

I'll also do the same thing on my end to reinforce your request.

Please keep me updated for any concerns you may need help with your QuickBooks account. I'm just a post away, T-Roy. Have a good day!

Hello there, dgoldberg.

Both the QuickBooks 2017 and 2018 are not compatible with the Excel 2019. Here are the supported Microsoft Excel programs when exporting reports from the 2018 version:

  • Excel 2016
  • Excel 2013
  • Excel 2010
  • Office 365

You can also refer to this article for the QuickBooks 2018 system requirements.

Please let me know if you have more questions on this.

When will the desktop versions be updated to become compatible with Excel 2019 and all of MS Office 2019?

Hello there, @T-Roy.

As your business continues to grow, you can be sure QuickBooks will grow alongside it. Allow me to share some information on how product updates and new feature releases in QuickBooks Desktop works.

As of this time, there’s no exact turnaround-time on when our Product Developers will release an update that will enable the compatibility of QuickBooks Desktop to work with higher versions of Excel and MS Office. Updates like this are usually included every time you download the latest release and product updates.

Just make sure to turn on Automatic Update to allow QuickBooks to download and apply the latest updates as soon as you access the program.

On the other hand, I understand how beneficial this integration for you and your business. I’d be glad to forward these suggestions to our Product Engineers for consideration in future updates. You can also share your feedback and feature request directly from your QuickBooks account.

Here’s how:

  1. Click Help.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Choose Product Suggestion.
  4. Type in the  details of your request on the pop-out window.

Don’t hesitate to leave click the Reply button below if you have other questions about the compatibility of Excel with QuickBooks Desktop. I’m here to help.

I have Quickbooks 2019 installed, also Microsoft Office 365 Excel 2019 installed (64 bit).  Both work great on one computer.  I can export to excel with no problems.

However, this doesn't work on another computer so I will have to figure out what the difference is.  I believe I ran the QB Fix Doctor which fixed it last time so QB would recognize the Exel.  This other computer has always had this issue especially when updating either program.

Will keep everyone updated as to my progress.

Thanks for joining this conversation, @Nina20.

Just to verify, does your Microsoft Office 365 installed locally on the other computer? If yes, you should be able to export to excel with no problems. If not, make sure to install it locally, since QuickBooks Desktop 2019 doesn't support the web version.

Consider checking out this article for additional information: System requirements for QuickBooks 2019 and Enterprise Solutions 19.0.

On the other hand, if it's installed locally and you're unable to export report, yes, you can run the QuickBooks File Doctor. This tool helps resolve errors or issues within the company file.

Just in case, here's the article that tackles how to use or run the tool: QuickBooks File Doctor - Fix your Damaged Company File or Network.

Keep me posted on how it goes. I'll look for your response and make sure everything is taken care of for you.

Yes, Office 365 is installed locally on the computer & the export to excel works.

On the other computer is just Microsoft office also installed locally (not 365) & that is the one I have always had the problem with.  Sometimes the export works & sometimes it doesn't.  I am currently trying several options & will let everyone know how I solved the issue.  I know I did before, just don't remember how I did it.

Thanks for a great forum!

Hello there, @Nina20.

I'm here to help you today and ensure you'll be able to export transactions from QuickBooks to Excel without any issues.

First, you may need to update your Microsoft Excel to be able to export successfully. However, if the problem continues, you can then start uninstalling and reinstalling your Excel. Make sure to restart your computer for the update to be taken successfully.

Once completed, you can now try exporting your data or transactions.

Please stay posted if you have any other QuickBooks questions, I'm just a post away to help you. Have a great day ahead!

Okay - tried File Doctor - didn't work.

Tried re-starting computer - didn't work.

Have Microsoft Office Standard 2019 on this computer.  Can I safely uninstall & then reinstall excel only or do I have to do the entire office?  There is no "repair" of excel so that is out.

The fun continues.....Thanks all for your feedback.

Hello Nina20,

You can find the repair option when you click Change from the Internet Option settings. Let me guide you through how.

  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs.
  3. Click Uninstall a program.
  4. Find the Microsoft Office on your computer. In the bar above, click Change.
  5. Select Quick Repair, then Repair (or choose Online Repair).

Once done, reboot your computer and try exporting again.

I'd also suggest visiting the Microsoft Office website for the detailed steps on how to uninstall and reinstall the entire Office suite.

This article is also a good reference: Export option for Excel is grayed out.

Excel 2019 Compatibility

Has there been a recent update that has added the compatibility?  I've tried all of the steps and tips above and still am not able to export to Excel 2019 (only to a csv file).  The only difference I've noted is that I have the desktop version of Excel 2019 and not Office 365 but I thought if they are installed locally they are the same.   I'm also using QB pro 2017.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Good day, MikeMcM.

We are considering to include Microsoft 2019 in our future QuickBooks updates. The date is still tentative, but we will surely send notifications about it. We are so grateful for your understanding while we're working on it.

I'll be giving you this article just in case you need it: System requirements for QuickBooks 2017 and Enterprise Solutions 17.0.

On the other hand, I've made some research about being able to install 2 versions of Microsoft on the computer. Though it's not recommended, it is possible. You could give it a try.

We'll be right here to help if you have any questions.

Okay - I tried to repair Quickbooks Premier 2019 installed locally & tried to repair Excel 2019 installed locally but this is just Office Standard not Office 365 on one computer only.  Then I re-started the whole computer.  I am still getting the export to excel in csv.  I might just try putting an older excel version on & seeing how that goes.  I meet all requirements as far as memory & Windows 10 & etc.  (Job #3)

On 2 other computers I also have Quickbooks Premier 2019 with Excel (Office 365) 2019 & those work great.  Both also have Windows 10.  (Job 1 & 2)

Will keep you updated.  UGH!

How many installed devices do you have with Office 365? Do you have any extra slots? If so try removing the current Excel and then installing from O 365. Just a thought since it seems to work on th eother computers

John-Pero,

I checked that & we have reached the max with Office 365.  Already thought of that.

Thank you for the idea!
