Exporting report to Excel suddenly not working

Hi,

I've been using QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 for more than a year. I've never had issues exporting reports to Excel, but today I'm suddenly not able to export anything. When I click the Excel button above a report the 'Send Report to Excel' window pops up, but after I click Export, nothing happens. It's as if I never clicked anything.

I've tried searching through other posts on the topic but all the other issues I've come across either started when a new program was installed or upgraded, or with QB online.

In my case I haven't installed or upgraded anything at all, but this problem suddenly occurred.

The only only change I've made recently is that I've changed my preferences to send emails using Outlook - although I can't imagine this would have any effect on my ability to export to Excel.

Waiting anxiously to hear back from you so I can get on with my work!:)

Thank you

Thank you for providing details, sb-alehzayis.

I'd like to help and make sure you can export those reports in excel.

Before we start, you'll need to make sure that your QuickBooks version is up to date. This can also fix issues in QuickBooks  just like the one you experienced.

Also, you can check and see which specific versions of Microsoft Office  works with your QuickBooks Desktop 2020. You can visit out this link from Microsoft to repair Microsoft Office. Once done, you can start exporting your reports to excel.

If you still can't export the reports to excel, we can toggle your Windows User Account Controls (UAC). This should reset any settings preventing the export feature.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Type User Account Control Settings into the search and open User Account Control Settings.
  2. Select and move the slider to Never Notify. Then select OK.
  3. Restart your computer.

That should get you back on track. You can go back into QuickBooks and export your report to excel.

I've also included this link from Microsoft in case you needed help in uninstalling and reinstalling Excel.

Click the reply button below for follow-up questions about reports. I'm always here to help. Have a wonderful week!

Thanks for joining the thread, @lcwong.

In your case, let's review the system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020  to isolate this issue. Each version of QBDT works with a specific version of Microsoft Office. In most cases, incompatibility between Excel and QuickBooks causes issues with extracting the information. Thus, you need to upgrade or downgrade to a supported one.

If you have the compatible version ( (Microsoft 365, includes 64-bit), you can follow Archie_B's recommendation to repair your Office application to fix the problem. Then, go back into QuickBooks and export your report again.

Moreover, here's how you can learn more about what to do to fix export to Excel issues in QBDT.

If the hurdle persists, I recommend contacting with our Support Team for further assistance. A live agent can check and review your account and investigate the performance of your reports securely. To contact support:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Type a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and choose a way to connect.

If you have any other questions about exporting your reports to Excel, let me know by adding a comment below. I've got your back, and I'm always here to help. Take care and have a nice day ahead.
