How can I add a mark-up to materials I am adding to my estimates?

You can create a markup item to add to your estimates, daniel-aec-inc-u.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the +New button.
  2. Select Estimates under Customers.
  3. In the Product/Service column, click Add New.
  4. Set up the item. Once done creating an item for markup, click Save and Close.
  5. Enter the markup amount and other details for this transaction.
  6. Click Save.

That's it. Keep me posted if there's anything else you need.

This is a terrible way to add mark up. I should be able to enter my parts and mark a percentage for mark up and it be used for that item in estimates. Doing it as a total for n entire invoice is not useful. Do you mark up a part that is $4 the same as apart that is $30,000? No they have their own individual rate of mark up. This used to be available in the Contractor edition of quickbooks.

This is not what we want you to feel, daniel-aec-inc-u.

The Contractor Edition is different from QuickBooks Online. It's more detailed and caters specifically to contractors' needs.

For now, you can only add markups in QBO with the steps provided above.

You can always leave a reply on this thread if you need anything else.

THIS IS TERRIBLE>  A percent mark up is daily need in any sales practice not just construction industry.  This needs to be fixed.

How can I add a mark-up to materials I am adding to my estimates?

Hi there, HCSPLUMB.

I understand how convenient adding a mark-up percentage to an estimate. However, that option is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

For now, you can consider sending your feedback or suggestion directly to our engineers by going to the Gear icon and selecting Feedback. This way, they can review this request and add it in the future update.

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Choose the Gear icon at the top, then click Feedback.
  3. Enter the new features you would like us to add in the description box.
  4. Tap Next to send feedback.

In addition to your estimates, you can use this link for future guides: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Please know that I'm only a post away if you need further assistance. I'm here to provide help and make sure you’re taken care of. Wishing your business continued success.

I'm not even sure where to begin with how ridiculous this is.

Your software is used by tens and hundreds of thousands of people and you can't add markup to product on an estimate without showing the line item?

Mind blown Intuit, mind blown.

I believe our sales rep. might have sold us the wrong addition.  We are also having troubling figuring out how to add a mark up to each line item we want to mark up.  Does the contractor addition also come with invoicing and receivable options?

Intuit doesn't care.  Just another prime example of a business product developed by non-business owners/people.  This problem has been ongoing since at least 2018 and Intuit has ignored.  I don't know how any company can efficiently operate without this simple feature: show "cost" and "markup" on the estimate.  I know a ton of people are leaving QB, I believe I am next...what a crap company that is completely out of touch...a complete joke of a company.

How can I add a mark-up to materials I am adding to my estimates?

I am working on a cost plus job.  I need to add the mark up on each INVOICE.

I import materials into the invoice, and then when I try to mark up each item, nothing happens to the price!

I am using Premier Plus Contractor edition 2023.

I know how to add the mark up for an estimate. There should be a setting to automatically add this, but I suffer through having to do it line by line.

What I want to know is: How do I add the markup to billable materials at the end of the job?

Hello Awkwierd

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! I found this video that I believe may be beneficial to your case.

If this doesn't apply, then I will go ahead and submit feedback to our Developer about making a feature available for this. I can indeed understand how tough and time-consuming it can be for sure.

Let me know if this helped you out! I will be around if you need anything else. Bye for now.
