How can I edit a class name

Happy Friday, @kjwallace92.

Editing a Class Name is a breeze and I'll show you how below:

Changing a Class

  1. From QuickBooks Online, click the Gear icon (⚙) > All Lists.
  2. Click Classes. Under the Action ▼ drop-down, select Edit.
  3. Change the Name and click Save.

These steps are also available from our awesome guide on setting up and editing Classes for your convenience. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed with QuickBooks. Thanks for coming to the Community, best wishes.

How can I edit a class name

Hi... The process was simple. But, my question is this: I'm not seeing the changed name(s) on my profit and loss statement. Also, when I go to categorize a transaction for future use, it's not appearing in my dropdowns...???

How can I edit a class name

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for assistance, @A1Adjuster. Let me provide information so your updated class name will show up on your Profit and Loss statement, and you’ll be able to categorize your transactions.

As long as the Class setup is correct and you’ve changed the name completely, the updated details will automatically reflect on your Profit and Loss statement. Classes will also appear in the dropdown menu when you categorize transactions.

I’ve got some screenshots for your visual reference:

Cached data might be the reason behind this. Please know that once the browser's cached files have issues, QuickBooks functionalities may get affected. You can perform some troubleshooting steps to get this fixed.

First, open your QuickBooks Online account in a private or incognito window for testing. You can use these shortcuts keys below for quick navigation:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Once logged in, try to run the Profit and Loss Detail report and categorize a transaction. If the changed name reflects on the report and the class appears on the dropdown menu, get back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Doing this helps the program to run better. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

You can read these resources to learn more about assigning classes to transactions and how to generate a report for them:
