HOW DO I DELETE A DUPLICATE JOURNAL ENTRY

Hi, thanks for posting your concern here. I can help you delete this duplicated transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to correct your records.

There are possible reasons for duplicate Journal entries (JE). It could be the entry was accidentally recorded twice or that there's a recurring JE that causes the duplicate. You may also run the Audit Log report in QBO to show what's causing the duplicate.

Here's how to delete the duplicate:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the Accounts Receivable and click View register.
  3. Double-click the duplicated journal entry.
  4. Click More and select Delete.

To learn more about the detailed process, see this link: Reverse or delete a journal entry in QuickBooks Online.

Another way to delete the duplicate is to click the Magnifying glass icon to locate the journal entry. I'll show you how.

  1. Click the Magnifying glass icon.
  2. Enter the date, amount, or transaction number you’re looking for then select the desired transaction
  3. Select Advanced Search if the transaction you’re looking for does not appear in the result.
  4. Adjust the filters to find the duplicate journal entry.
  5. Once done, select the duplicate JE.

  6. Click More and select Delete.

You can also check this article that provides the complete details on using the Advanced feature in QBO: Search for transactions.

I also recommend consulting with your accountant to ensure the accuracy of your accounts after deleting the duplicate.

Once done, you can now reconcile your account anytime you’re ready. To guide you through the whole process smoothly, I’ve added this article for your reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Please know that you're always welcome to post anytime you have other concerns managing your transactions in QBO. I'd be more than happy to assist. Have a great day and keep safe!
