How do I import data to populate customer custom fields?

Hello, jeff-mountainvie.

Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your accounting software.

I'm here to lend a hand and guide you on how to import your data to populate in custom fields in QuickBooks Online.

First, we need to turn on the Custom fields option. It's super easy. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Accounts and setting
  2. Press Sales, under Sales form content. Then click the pencil icon and turn on the Custom Field
  3. Tap Done once finished.

After enabling this feature, you can use the sample format and start mapping your template fields.

Another option, utilize an exporter tool to map your data fields.

I tried what you said to do, but on my end it does not allow me to turn on the custom fields under settings. Another suggestion?

How do I import data to populate customer custom fields?

Hi there, @5 Aces.

We appreciate you for performing the steps my colleague provided. Let me help you turn on the custom fields so you can utilize them.

Before anything else, I'd like to know if you encountered any error messages while turning on the Custom field.

On top of that, if you attempt to import invoices to QuickBooks Online (QBO), the custom fields will never be included if the invoice has one. Since in QBO mapping options for custom fields aren't available.

In the meantime, we can perform some basic troubleshooting steps. Start by logging in to your account through a private browser or incognito mode to avoid cache data files that cause odd behavior to the program. Also, to confirm if this is a browser-related concern. You can utilize these shortcut keys:

  • GGoogle Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Then, turn on the Custom fields. If this works, clear the cache of your regular browser to eliminate piled-up data. If the issue persists, you can use another supported browser or device. It might be that the current one you're using has a temporary issue with the program.

If you want to learn how to add custom fields in QBO, you can read this article: Add custom fields to sales forms and purchase orders in QuickBooks Online.

You might want to personalize your sales forms. Check this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

For additional questions about managing your custom fields and sales forms, never hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be willing to help. Have a good one.
