How do I Invoice products that I did not purchase?

I have a situation that I can not figure out how to invoice. I run a small computer shop and we just replaced a bunch of computers for a client. The client did not want to keep the old computers and basically said I could have them. I am going to clean them up and refresh the operating systems to a refurbished condition then sell them on eBay. Since I have no expense in acquiring these units (other than my labor), I am not sure what accounts I need to hit when I create the invoice for these. Do I still use COGS or should I handle it some other way? Thanks.

Hi there @XITinc, welcome to the QuickBooks Community.

Accounting for things like this can definitely be tricky! I recommend that you reach out to your accountant for advice regarding how you should record these transactions. Each business is unique and your accountant will be able to guide you in the right direction.

I'm also going to leave the floor open for other community members to respond. We have quite a few members with accounting experience that may be able to provide some helpful tips.

If you need any help navigating the process once you get the advice you are looking for, feel free to reach out! I'll be here to help.

Hi @cody_a , I did reach out to my accountant and he was unsure of how to do it. I was hoping someone in the community would be able to help.
