You can't stop it. It can only go from 1-3 hours.
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Marie. I'm here to share some details about the inactivity option in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Just_Me is correct, the timeout settings in QBO can only be changed by the Master Administrator and they apply to all company users to a limit of 3 hours. You can follow the steps provided above to change the default, which is 1 hour.
Furthermore, please know that QBO measures your time of inactivity from the last time you moved your mouse, clicked, or used your keyboard on any transaction form.
Additionally, feel free to save these resources that will help you personalize your QBO account for whatever you need to change:
You're always welcome to get back to me if you need further assistance with managing your company settings in QBO. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!
SUPPOSEDLY inactive for 3 hours. I left for 1 hour and 25 minutes after entering something and IT WAS CLOSED and had to restart. YES I have it on 3 hour inactive so how do I get QB online to WORK like it is supposed to or override this useless closing. Tired of opening constantly .because I multitask ALL DAY. EVERY DAY!!
I know this isn't the ideal experience we want you to have when using QuickBooks Online (QBO), @pswork. Let's work together to find a solution.
QBO has an automatic timeout feature that logs out users after 1 to 3 hours of inactivity to protect sensitive financial data from unauthorized access, especially if a computer is left unattended. However, QuickBooks doesn't offer an option to override the feature beyond the existing settings.
On the other hand, since you've set it up for 3 hours within QBO, I'd recommend performing some troubleshooting steps.
To begin with, let's access your QBO account using a private browser to determine if this is browser-related. This method prevents using cookies and recording any browsing history as stored web caches can become corrupted, leading to session inconsistencies.
Use these shortcut keys on your keyboard to access incognito mode:
If this works, let's return to your regular browser and clear its cache so the system can restore. If you get the same result, I recommend switching to a different supported browser.
Furthermore, I've got you an article that helps you personalize reports and focus on the business info that matters most: Customize reports in QBO.
If there's anything else I can assist with automatic timeout in QBO, please let me know. Take care.
