How do you make discounts non taxable on the invoices. not the products and services but down at the bottom before the totals.

I already have them set up on all my recurring templates but all of a sudden some of them are creating a negative tax amount.

Good morning, @mbrickel

Welcome to the Community!

To clarify, can you provide me with a screenshot of the invoice you're referring to?

In the meantime, you can check out this guide as a future reference: Add a discount to an invoice

I'll be waiting for your response!

it is taxing the discount and it does not happen all the time only in certain instances. but we do not want discounts taxed either way

Thank you for reaching out to the Community, mbrickel. I'd be glad to provide more information about sales tax.

If the discount is taxable, the sale price is reduced by the discount amount with the sales tax.

While discounts that aren't taxable will not affect the sales tax, the sales tax is calculated based on the amount of taxable retail sales. It's up to the state sales tax department whether the discount is taxable.

To ensure that your discount will be nontaxable, you can tap the double arrow icon next to the discount field if you want to apply a discount to the total price and make sure that the sales tax comes first, then the discount.
