How to create a report that sorts payments by payment method.

When running Sales By Customer Detail Report on a Cash Basis, is it possible to differentiate between non-taxable versus taxable line items for reporting purposes?

How to create a report that sorts payments by payment method.

Hello 916pokerdepot,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. Let me show how the Sales By Customer Detail report works and give an alternative to show the information you need.

If you're looking into using the Sales by Customer Detail report to compare the taxable and non-taxable income, this isn't currently available. However, you can customize the report to show which items are taxed and aren’t.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to Reports in the left navigation panel.
  2. Scroll down to the Sales and Customers section, then pick Sales by Customer Detail.
  3. Enter a date range and choose Cash as the Accounting method.
  4. Click Customize.
  5. Expand the Rows/columns section, and place check marks in the Tax Name, Tax Amount, and Taxable Amount boxes.
  6. Click Run Report.

Check out this article for more details about Customizing reports:

We would appreciate if you can share more of your thoughts about the ability to customize report for comparison purposes directly to our product engineers. You can send them by clicking the Gear icon, then selecting Send Feedback Online.

That’s it! You should now be able to get the taxable items details you need.

Feel free to loop me in as to how the customization of the report goes. I’m here to help anytime. Have a good one.
