This is one of my biggest gripes about QuickBooks... it automatically creates general ledger accounts we don't want in places we don't want them! We are trying to record a bounced check using QuickBooks' "Record Bounced Check" feature, however, when doing so QuickBooks automatically creates a new general ledger account named "Bank Service Charges".
How do can I get QuickBooks to stop automatically creating the "Bank Service Charges" account when using the "Record Bounced Check" feature?
Some background (if needed):
QuickBooks already had a "Bank Service Charges" account when we began which we left alone. BUT... we neatly grouped that account to a specific area on our PL. However, after we grouped the first "Bank Service Charges" account and then went to use the "Record Bounced Check" feature some time after, QuickBooks automatically created a second "Bank Service Charges" account back in the old ungrouped location. We tried to delete that second account, merge it with the first account, rename the account, make the account inactive, among other things... But, no matter what we tried, if we went back to use the "Record Bounced Check" feature, QuickBooks would again automatically create another "Bank Service Charges" account back in the old ungrouped location over and over.
Hello there, ptownbro.
I can see how you wanted to organize your accounts and keep an accurate account.
Yes, you're correct. QuickBooks automatically generate a new account for Bank Service Charges when recording bounced check in your company file. The Bank Service Charge is a default account that cannot be eliminated. It is one of the accounts that QuickBooks automatically created once you grouped this account.

So you're saying this cannot be fixed? If a move an automatically created account QB should know that and not keep recreating it.
